RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Just one more strut question

I've had the same experience as Frank. One of the tubes showed a little rust after several years of exposure. A little sanding and a rattle can paint job and it's as good as new. I haven't had any problem with the shafts.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable Shower

I came across a guy on the Ducy trail several years ago that had a stainless sprayer mounted under the hood of his Jeep. He had a nice warm shower at the end of the day.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Voltmeter install

Craig, A few years ago when these meter installs first appeared on the forum there were some reports of meter failure. The theory at the time was that the damage was caused by a voltage spike caused by water pump being turned on and off. Your gauge may be more robust but it might be a good idea...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DC-DC Battery Charger

This will depend on your solar controller. Some will allow 24v input which is more efficient since there is less current for the same power. Less current means less power loss due to wire resistance.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My experience and difficulties with 12v power

I don't understand why your battery separator is cycling. Your alternator should be putting out enough power to maintain the minimum lock in voltage. I would check the alternator output or a large cyclic load under the hood.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's under your camper?

I have a bed mat under mine because I had one in the truck when I bought the camper and figured I might as well use it. It keeps the camper from moving which helps on the road but makes centering the camper a 2 person job.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West don't buy this folding step

I've had good luck with the Rubbermaid step stool. It handles my weight fine but it won't hold up to a 3/4 ton Dodge backing over it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West CO Detector Going Off

If you'e replacing both the propane and CO detectors with a combination detector where do you mount it. Shouldn't the propane detector be near the floor and the CO detector near the ceiling?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West News Feature: Beer-in-cans > Beer-in-bottles

Many years ago I learned to pack the bottles vertically in the ice chest. I lost a caja of Corona on the Gonzaga road because I had stacked them like cordwood. It took a frothy mess to cure my stupidity.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tech Tip / Service Bulletin (Camper to Roof Wiring)

I don't totally agree with this repair method. The wire FWC uses has thick strands and a semi rigid outer covering. This type of wire is meant for a stationary environment such as your house not a folding roof panel. Just splicing the existing wire is only a temporary fix. When my wiring failed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Reason To Own an ATC

We use to stay in Motel 6 occasionally but had an experience several years ago in Hayward that cured me. They're going to waste a lot of electricity keeping the light on for me.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No isolator only a thermal breaker?

The thermal breaker can be installed in either direction. Seeing 12v at the camper plug is normal. The battery separator that disconnects the truck from the camper when the truck isn't running is downstream from this point.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Run time for a 3way fridge on propane?

2+ weeks on a baja beach. It is probably somewhat temperature dependent. A problem with the propane fridge is that it doesn't maintain a set temperature. It will run a number of degrees below ambient. so as ambient goes up the interior goes up and as ambient goes down the interior goes down. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Floor pack problems

Thanks for the advise guys. I think my first step will be to push it back in position and add some screws. I'm also going to figure out an angle bracket setup and swap out the elevator bolts for grade 8. I'll post some pictures once it's done. Stan - On the passenger side do you have to relieve...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I am getting another new set of tires.

I was heading up Owens Valley Memorial Day weekend when a bomb went off in the back of the truck. I got it pulled over and discovered the tire blew and took out the side of the truck. I put on the spare, picked up the pieces and continued on for a fun weekend. I'm glad it was the rear and not...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Floor pack problems

I've only had the camper off the truck a couple of times so I haven't paid much attention to the floor pack. Now that I have it off I did an inspection and noticed that the horizontal section of the floor pack in the area of the tie down rings is pulling away from the vertical section. I'm not...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck/Camper Damage from Rough Roads?

I haven't had any problems with the truck but there has been some camper damage. I lost a turnbuckle on the Devil's Racetrack road a few years ago. When I got home I installed jam nuts and haven't had any problems since. FWC has repaired the rear wall twice do to cracking over the door...
