Steve, Bend's winter -- at least the part I've experienced, the past 2 months -- has been very much in line with "long-term average". Just a few inches of snow at a time. An amount that's appropriate for "high desert" with annual precipitation of 12 inches water-equivalent. An alternative...

The thing is, central Oregon hasn't had nearly the winter that California has had. Maybe the critters could sense impending blizzards to the south and figured "better safe than sorry", coat-wise.

Some fluffy, scruffy spring critters grazing, browsing, in my backyard. Those coats make them look more like vicuñas than muleys.

This takes me back to growing up in the Redding, California area...back to late December 1968, when Redding received an all-time record dump of snow -- 16 inches. Most winters Redding doesn't receive any snow, so buildings weren't (aren't?) designed to carry 16 inches of heavy wet snow. The...

This morning I'd been hearing weird thumping sounds now and then...?? Eventually I realized that it's the sound of big blobs of wet snow dropping from my trees and hitting the ground: THUMP! Because I've spent the past couple of winters avoiding central Oregon winter I'd forgotten...

Many years ago I got a long snow rake mainly to clear heavy snow from my FWC roof while winter camping. And I used it for that. Later I used it to clear (freakishly) heavy snow from my home roof. Worked well.

This is the official () thread for meteorological spring 2023! ... even if the current weather in the West seems very much still winter.

Here in Bend, Oregon, the low price for regular today is about $3.50/gal... 5¢ less if you pay cash.

I can relate to this from my personal experience, in San Antonio one month ago. My reaction when I discovered, "Where's my truck?!" was just like this guy's. However, my 2022 Ford F150 XLT does not have push button start. And the truck was found a week later, in use for "smuggling".

Mr. 3pin, yer clever and clairvoyant. Why clairvoyant? When I posted the dryer video on Facebook I captioned it with this: "Round and round the damp clothes go, And in just a few minutes they'll be dry, I know" Or maybe it's the -"Great minds..." thing.

Seems like usually, in central Oregon, the TV weather guy will say: "..forecast for up to 10 inches of snow overnight!", which means we'll actually get 4 - 6 inches. What I want to know is the most-likely amount of snow we'll get. I love how AccuWeather presents the likelihood of precipitation...

What brand are your replacement batteries? When I do a search for CR2477 I find Sony (most expensive) Panasonic (a little less expensive) and 'various-weird-brands' that are much cheaper.

Around Christmas it got well below freezing here along the Gulf coast of south Texas... And then there's this week: I'm camped at Mustang Island State Park. There are no trees on this barrier island (giant sandbar), but I enjoy big views. There are several national wildlife refuges in the area...

That Temp Stick WiFi unit looks like a good choice for at home, where I have WiFi. My previous home weather station died some time ago, so I think I'll look into Temp Stick...maybe get one ordered so I can set it up when I'm home in a couple of weeks. For use to measure local conditions while...
