RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2022 Almost Here!

"2022" sounds kinda futuristic, doesn't it? Even more than "2021". I've read a lot of science fiction... :P

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

And I paid the same price in Ft Lauderdale today as I did in Naples yesterday. Different brands and city. In my cross-country wanders in the last couple of years it seems like there's a lot more variation, bigger range of prices, on the West Coast -- I mean even in the same town. In the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Wanderland

A chilly few days coming up in Bend. High temps below freezing. But it's an improvement over an earlier forecast showing single-digit lows.

I paid $3.199/gal for regular in Naples, Florida this morning.

Wintery in Central Oregon! Most of the fun will be at elevations higher than Bend, but that's a good thing. Besides just being less of a pain, lack of snow on city streets puts less strain on city budget...for plowing overtime, etc. Auto body shops, however, LOVE snowy slippery roads --...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Wanderland

... Where you can wander in a winter wonderland without having to plow or shovel or even wear real boots. Of course, I still want there to be an uncivilized amount of snow in the mountains. Several feet of barbarity would be great! :D

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Wanderland

My next door neighbor sent me a 'postcard' from home this afternoon: his deck and my car and house. This looks like just as forecast by AccuWeather yesterday: "a coating to an inch". A nice, civilized, high-desert amount of snow. :D

Nice to see a forecast for more heavy snow after such a poor fall. In central Oregon the main ski area finally opened this past weekend -- the latest opening in 13 (15?) years. Even with snow-marking ability, it's been too warm.

I wish snow forecasts (and rain, too) were always shown as in this from AccuWeather: I'm not used to seeing snow-depth predictions presented as a probability distribution, but I like it! I'm sure this isn't new, but what I usually get is something like "... up to 10 inches overnight... "...

I knew that Mr 3pin's Crosby reference was to "White Christmas" -- anticipating that in California's mountains. But what came to mind was a Crosby Christmas album that our family had about a million years ago. This one: And while that album included "WC" and other Christmas standards, the song...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Wanderland

Good idea! Here in the subtropics of Florida, where I'm camped, I bet I'd get a premium price for genuine Western snow -- High Desert snow at that!

My next door neighbor (home in Bend) texted me: "A little snow on the ground this morning...will be gone soon though"

Snow -- wet snow...or rain with structure, at least, is forecast for my home, too. I'll be missing that event, but glad for the much-needed moisture at home.

Here in northern Florida -- Suwannee River State Park -- it's December and raining... But the locals are out in shorts and short sleeves. So am I. I see why the cold-intolerant live here.

I paid $3.039/gal for Regular in Waycross, Georgia today. "Waycross" because back in the day, once upon a time, multiple railroads crossed at that town. Highways still do.

I spent the afternoon in my kayak in T-shirt and shorts...but that's to be expected here in southern Georgia. So what the hey is going on with that crazy West Coast weather?!...including the flood-making "atmospheric river" in the PNW..? That ain't right!

Yep, today is the day when meteorologists around Earth's Northern Hemisphere celebrate (reservedly -- they're scientists) the first day of winter. I'm winter wandering where it's warmer.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fall In

This is more than a little atypical: late fall and central Oregon has the same weather (forecast) as coastal southern Georgia?? It's Bend's weather that's atypical -- unseasonably warm. I'm camped in Crooked River State Park, GA -- not far from the Florida border.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

The lowest prices I've found, so far, are in the Carolinas. But unless you happen to be in the area, probably not worth a cross-country drive to save a few dollars. ;-) Today I paid $3.189/gal for regular in Swainsboro, Georgia.

I paid almost exactly half that in Summerville, SC yesterday. The cheapest gas stations here have regular <$3.

This afternoon, driving down US 17 near Charleston South Carolina, I turned on the a/c in my truck. Yes, for real. The temperature outside was about 80F and the humidity was about 70%. I could NEVER survive summer down here! :P I'm staying with some friends in the area, and, fortunately, they...
