RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West move camper a few miles with no tiedowns?

Assuming you won't have to accelerate up a steep hill or floor it from a stop... I'd risk it if I was in your position. But that's just me... And I paddle my kayak among alligators.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Well it's time to get rid of Winter and onto Spring

They've dropped the tornado watch for my area, but the 'regular' storm finally got here. Raining pretty hard with lightning and thunder. I'm at the blue dot: Nice to be cozy inside a fiberglass shell.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Well it's time to get rid of Winter and onto Spring

I'm camped on Grand Isle, Louisiana -- in my first ever tornado watch! Radar shows the storm action is passing to the west and north... which is just as well, I suppose. ;)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC mattresses are bricks...

Maybe because the mattress is relatively thin, if it was soft the sleeper (unless they were very light) would bottom out -- and feel the board underneath...? My 2005 mattress never felt hard, so I don't actually know what they are like now...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Well it's time to get rid of Winter and onto Spring

Spring in southern Louisiana -- Cajun Country: After some kayak paddling on the Vermillion River this afternoon, which got me a little warm, I almost turned on the A/C in my "camper". Temperature was about 80°F with 65% RH. But I resisted that noisy option and just turned a little fan on me...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sightings thread

RIGHT NOW! Here in Palmetto Island State Park, Louisiana: a FWC Hawk on a GMC Sierra with Texas plates. Just a couple of sites away from my campsite. (I, however, am traveling incognito: my identity as a pop-up camper owner is obscured by my travel trailer.)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Port Arthur, Texas, where I reported prices this morning, looks to be a source of gasoline. There are several petroleum refineries in and around the city, and I even drive through a couple of refineries to get to where I'm camped -- Sea Rim State Park. That is, the refineries straddle the road...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Craig, I didn't notice, but I'll look tomorrow when I fuel up. One thing I've noticed in Texas: gas prices in a region are very uniform, generally not varying by more than a couple cents between brands and locations. In Bend you can cross the street and save 20 cents/gallon! And in Redding...

When I saw this headline my first thought was of millions of Californians saying, "Man, I hope so! :) "

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do I get my propane tank re-certified?

I was glad that I was able to get it recertified and didn't have to buy a new one. The horizontal type that my 2005 FWC requires are expensive.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do I get my propane tank re-certified?

Frank, I got mine recertified at an actual propane distributor - the companies that fill big tanks. Ferrellgas, for example, rather than at some place that only fills rv tanks. The guy that checked it out noticed a rust spot, which is undesirable, but I promised to sand it out, and he recertified.

And the hits just keep on coming here at Twin Peaks CG, OPCNM, Arizona! Switching it up a bit today to keep things from getting stale: A small ATC on a small truck...from California, I think. It was a drive-by past my campsite so didn't get a good look. But it had a lot of stickers on the back...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New National Park Service Phone App

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dropping FWC Top in Heavy Winds

I think the fan is good for pulling in the soft-sides under normal conditions... But I don't think it has nearly enough suction to pull against the airfoil suction of gale-force winds curving across the top of the camper. I didn't have a roof-vent fan at the time of my high-winds experience, so...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dropping FWC Top in Heavy Winds

I had a very similar experience a couple of years ago, camped on a saddle/ridge at about 10,000 feet in the White Mts of California. I had the front of the truck/camper pointed into the wind. I tried to sleep but the winds were incredibly fierce - almost scary. So I eventually decided to lower...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anybody Caught Out Camping in this Snowstorm?

FWIW: I've been camped in southern Arizona, Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, for 2 weeks. Weather is fine - generally beautiful - this far south. But my plan was/is to go east to Texas, camp mostly along the Gulf and to continue to wander east from there. So I'm in a holding pattern here...
