RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Entry Ladder Mark I Rev B

Very nicely done, Rando. I faced the same problem with my aluminum ladder into my flatbed Grandby. But being basically lazy I just bought an extra set of those nesting orange levelors (can't remember what they are called) and slip 'em under the offending leg(s) as needed. Works very well!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I don't have a truck, camper or idea...help me out

I've had Largo Tank in Farmington, NM do two custom aluminum beds for me. Excellent customer service, totally customized to the truck and camper and very fair prices. If you call ask for Adam and tell him 'Durango Steve' referred his services to you! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:22032]...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The latest and greatest in cell phone boosters?

So the initial build on our new FWC Grandby Flatbed model is finishing up which means it is time to resurrect this very useful thread. Is Rando's Weboost 4G-M booster (along with the trucker antenna) still the 'latest and greatest'? Or are there any new players on the block? Many thanks in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed rear wheel articulation

On my 2018 Ram Chassis cab we're running the off-road 32"(?) factory tire and have a (heavily) loaded bed/tire gap of 4 1/2". So far we've never rubbed but I'll probably wind up placing air bags just to raise it a bit and (I hate to say) improve the appearance! :) (I've removed the back underbed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed camper

Yep! And then there is that darned aluminum crossbox with 50 cubic feet of more space to fill up! I think my bigger problem is the front and rear axle weights- 4380# on the front (I don't have the diesel) and 6540# on the rear! Time to do some deleting and/or shifting!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed camper

I'm on my second FWC flatbed. They ARE heavier plus they subtly invite more weight by giving you so much more space! I'm not sure I would put one on a Taco but that's just Mr. Travel Heavy ME! (Just weighed my Grandby Flatbed yesterday and full gas/ water plus 20 gallons/ full propane, etc it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire - not a "mod"

Agreed on the "pain to drop". This may be the most expensive 'spare tire carrier' ever! But the spare is sure easy to drop! However, this full width 'cross box' didn't prevent the spare from being "a much bigger pain to put back!" (I lifted it back by myself and two weeks and four...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tool Kit Ideas

If you travel alone (as we do) I think one of these heavy duty jump starters is essential. (Charge it up before every expedition.) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JFJLP6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West fresh water petcock drain valve

I just did this modification to my drain to keep the rinse water from splashing down on the under bed box. (For travel I tuck the hose behind the rub rail. Soap lives in the cross box to the left.) However, I'd feel a lot better about using this valve daily for hand washing if it was sturdy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Removing Adhesive From FWC Door Sticker

I'm late to the party but lighter fluid (the type they used in cigarette lighters) will safely remove almost any residue.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Building a Thinsulate thermal pack

Impressive! I (like many) already have the factory Liner. I wonder if the thinsulate could be added to it for more effectiveness?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Need your knowledge: Which truck to buy?

Where are you located? I have an amazing fabrication company in Farmington, NM that did it all for me... painlessly.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Need your knowledge: Which truck to buy?

I totally recommend the flatbed model. MUCH more livable and with MUCH more storage space! (Mine is the 'small one'!) :)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk Flatbed towing a trailer

Would this photo be of value, Craig? I've since sold the FB Hawk and moved into a 3500 Ram Chassis Cab with a FB Grandby but the back overhang isn't that great. (Still have the 2012 Rubicon... sadly with only 12,000 miles on the clock!)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No-Destination is heading North-Westerly!

We tried to do Idaho and specifically the Magruder Corridor last year. Beautiful country... they say. Sadly much of Idaho was blanketed with heavy smoke last summer so we finally bagged it and headed down to the 'monsoon country' of Northern Colorado. The takeaway? Check for forest fire...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shortening Rubber Bumpers

I just took my bumpers off completely on my Flatbed Grandby. After all, if you are bolted down completely there is no need of them. Let me stick my aluminum crossbox in perfectly.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No-Destination is heading North-Westerly!

Albuquerque has been pretty brutal heat wise too lately. (Even in Durango it has been over 90 AND with heavy smoke throughout much of SW Colorado!) Best wishes!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed build for a standard grandby

Wanna see the ultimate flatbed/standard camper build? It definitely was humbling for my poor little Grandby! (NOT!) Why the poor guy didn't just buy a Tiger RV and be done with it I'll never know!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Imogene Pass

Virtually all (and I do mean all) of SW Colorado is shut down due to huge fire danger. All 1,800,000 acres of San Juan National Forest, BLM land, state parks and lakes and of course our beloved durango-Silverton narrow gauge railroad. (I believe Mesa Verde National Park is still open.) This is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to access / remove Whale faucet in Hawk?

I went that route on a previous Hawk. Whale faucets are terrible. including the pull out one. I just pulled my Whale faucet from my 2018 Hawk and installed a $39.95 standard metal kitchen faucet with a separate pullout from Home Depot. 10 times better.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oven options

I really wanted an oven in my new flatbed Grandby build. But the logistics of adding it defeated me. So we'll fall back on two options from my whitewater rafting years. One is the venerable Coleman camp oven. And the other is an even older well-seasoned Dutch oven in the campfire! (Sioux says...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Imogene Pass

Before you come be aware they are closing many of the national forest completely to ALL traffic here is the super parched Southwest. The ranger literally locked the gate behind us as we exited the Santa Fe National Forest near Gallina, NM last Friday!
