RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Mexico wildfires Four Corners Area

The Durango 416 fire (which is near hwy 550 between Hermosa and Purgatory ski area) has burned (as of this morning) around 2400 acres. (The Ute Creek fire near Cimarron, NM is over 36,000 acres.) 550 Hwy between Durango and Silverton has been closed but had one lane reopen and then close again...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC mattress update

We are using the pull out in the flatbed Grandby to sleep north-south but could not figure out how to turn the Froli. So we put our heads to the front and add the little cushion extenders. They are 1 3/4" below the rest of the bed but honestly only our feet hang over and it hasn't been an issue.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC mattress update

Froli has either a 1 3/8" size or a 1 3/4" size. We went with the 1 3/4" and then added a pillow top mattress pad on top of the new mattresses the factory is installing. At least on the 2018 Flatbed model with a little bit of effort the top closes even with a comforter left on top. More...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alumiduty Build - Camper Prep

FWC makes a great camper (I'm on my third FWC in less than six years) but they do virtually NO customization. (I've tried!) :)

One important question: Do you usually travel solo or do you have a regular 'travelling companion'?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping in the FWC Booth for Overland Expo WEST (Flagstaff, AZ)

Stan, I really hoped to be there. Just got the underbed boxes mounted today and the crossbox will be second week of June. But sadly, going to miss... AGAIN this year. BTW, Denny and Stephen did a great job representing FWC! Steve

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Under bed storage

We really like having the underbed storage of the flatbed models. (I disliked living out of duffle bags.) However, as Rando says you do need to plan for the day since it isn't easily accessible.) We keep our jackets and pile vests, etc in the cab.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shopping for Truck Campers

X2. We've always used a collapsible 5 gallon container on all three of our FWC models and it works great with zero drama. So I'd strongly suggest removing a formal gray water tank from your criteria. And the new FWC furnaces are much quieter and energy efficient than older ones.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Brand is the 160 watt Solar Panel FWC Provides?

I saw this in the Truck Camper article:

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Brand is the 160 watt Solar Panel FWC Provides?

On my 2018 Grandby flatbed model the solar panel is approximately in the middle. I don't remember where the solar plug is and the camper is at the flatbed place getting the underbed boxes mounted.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTB: FWC Hawk *FOUND ONE!*

Good luck with this, Matt! Way back in 2012 I started out just like you. After six frustrating months I went over to the Dark Side and ordered my first Hawk fro the factory. Fast forward five years later and I just took possession of my third NEW FWC- this tie a new 2018 Grandby flatbed model...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 'Gutters' for new 2018 Flatbed Grandby

So last week Sioux and I made a wild 4 day, 1800 mile round trip dash to Bozeman to get our just-came-in Grandby mounted on our new aluminum flatbed. (We're getting the under bed aluminum boxes mounted now while we're in Costa Rica.) On our way back from Bozeman we hot a LOT of bad weather...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jack for new 3500 Ram Chassis Cab?

So the aluminum flat bed is being mounted today and hopefully we'll be trekking up to Bozeman, MT for our new Grandby FB model this week. My Ram came without a spare tire (a whole 'nother story in itself) and without a jack. So I bought one of these three ton rated jacks and am now overwhelmed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Install on Monday! Anything I should do before camper is bolted down?

Sorry, I just saw this. I'm looking to swap out the standard batteries that come with my new Grandby flatbed model and Denny is taking the new ones that come with the camper and giving me credit so I can install what I want. If it isn't too late bring this up to the boys at AT. BTW, congrats on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical hookup questions on 2018 Grandby Flatbed

God question. Remember that this is the flat bed model and the batteries are in a small compartment accessible from the outside via a cute little locked door! :) So since this will be a regular cab my wife has lost a lot of space for her junk that she uses when she gets out, of the truck. The...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical hookup questions on 2018 Grandby Flatbed

So Vic (and all you other electrical geniuses) which of the dual 6v AGM Rolls/Surrette batteries should I get? Taking into account the 160 watt solar (and sometimes a 100 watt portable solar) and the 220 watt alternator hooked to the camper with 2 gauge wire. I guess I'm asking where is the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical hookup questions on 2018 Grandby Flatbed

Thanks, guys! Vic, once I bolt my flatbed campers on they are more-or-less permanent so they can be wired in without the connectors. And I'm not super great about checking water levels. So I better go with the AGM's. Are the dual 6v AGM batteries going to be that much better than the batteries...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical hookup questions on 2018 Grandby Flatbed

Time is (slowly) marching forward and Denny says our Grandby flatbed is arriving late March! We'll be mounting it on a new regular cab Ram 3500 Chassis Cab. (Arriving in a week or two.) We ordered the Grandby with the 160 watt roof solar panel and the two battery set-up. This will be our third...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare tire and rim

So we got word our 2018 3500 Ram Chassis Cab will be delivered the second week of March. During the order process I discovered that while our truck will have the LT275/70R18E BSW On/Off Road Tire (TCM order code) the spare tire option from Ram would be a 17" tire! (And a 350.00 option!) So I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Please help me decide on which GVW to order...

Not sure my ideas are anything special. Since the bed will be 110" long (rails are 112" in the chassis cab) we'll have the boxes behind the cab be 36" long and the after wheel boxes 24". plus will have a 'shovel box' running the full length under the bed 28" wide by 6" high. Huge a amount of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

In my new Grandby Flatbed/Ram 3500 Chassis Cab I'm (impatiently) waiting on the cabover clearance should be around 2 5/8". I'd prefer getting it down around 1 1/2". New trucks just don't flex. Steve
