RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Opened Turnbuckles

This is helpful. But when I look at the numbers, each one of those slings is rated at 25 kilonewtons or about 5000 pounds. If there is one at each corner, I would think that even with static shock loading, an 850 pound camper would fall well within any limits for failure, wouldnt it? They...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hand crank roof lift assist

Ditto on the cordless drill. I didn't like the flex on the lift boards so I reinforced them . I removed the lift boards front and rear and found some thin rigid aluminum plate to use as a backer. After cutting the aluminum to size, I glued it t the back of the lift boards, drilled screw holes...

Glad you were able to solve the problem. I too had to get a second cable from TSS but their customer service is great.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Getting Satellite Radio Reception with a Camper installed

The patch cable should have the grey square end that plugs directly into the radio and a female end that the small antenna cable plugs into. At least that is what I had. That patch cable -- at a quick glance, it looks like the one end is male but on mine, it has a hole that plugs into the male...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oh goody, another hurricane?

I just spent a week on the northern Outer Banks up near Corolla and we had perfect weather. But we all were amazed by how big the houses are built right behind the dunes. They stand 4 and 5 stories with all of the living area above the dunes exposed to the elements. And construction quality...

UPDATE on the road in certain directions, the reception would still be spotty. I simply moved the antenna down the hood a bit so it sits towards the front. It has a much clearer view of the sky and reception is very consistent. Sent from my SM-G900V using Wander The West mobile app

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West More 3-way Woes..

When you are investing the dollars we do in a truck camper, the truck, etc., the incremental cost difference to add solar and a compressor fridge just isn't that great. Sent from my SM-G900V using Wander The West mobile app

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bike & 'yak mount

You are correct that a few hours would not matter. But if the road was rough and the bikes bounced around a lot (which they will), it would drastically speed up the seal deterioration.

Front shock seals don't like being in any position except the one they are designed for. Hanging them upside down or on a wall typically causes the seals to eventually leak. Sent from my SM-G900V using Wander The West mobile app

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Interesting comparo!

Climbed around one at the Minnesota state fair. It feels about the same size as my 2012 Tacoma. I hate the wifi tech stuff it comes with but the diesel looks promising. As I was sitting in it, two guys walked up and said "why would anyone drive a truck that small". Sitting next to their full...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

I have 2 of the Grape Solar 100W panels mounted on my FWC. I used some angle aluminum to build brackets and mounted them to the existing Yakima tracks. Each one, including the mount, weighs 16 pounds so that is 32 pounds total. They sit low so gas mileage was unaffected. I have not plugged...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ARB Awnings on a Pop Up...anyone had experience with them?

I used square aluminum tubes bolted to Jack brackets add uprights. Used a piece of the same square tubing add a cross piece and bolted my awning to that. It comes off easily and has never moved even over some rough roads. Sent from my SM-G900V using Wander The West mobile app

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

When this is all said and done, my guess is worst case, Renogy will pull the flexible panels off the market. They will determine that the failures are due to excessive heat and that for panels to work properly, there needs to be air flow underneath.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar - informal survey of brands and customer satisfaction

I bought two Grape 100 watt panels from them along with a controller and a Trimetic meter. They are not the cheapest guys around but I found their expertise and customer service exemplary. They spent time on the phone with me walking thru the install I wanted to do and made suggestions about...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Getting Satellite Radio Reception with a Camper installed

Since I installed a FWC Eagle on my Tacoma, the one big frustration has been the loss of a consistent satellite radio signal. Toyota chose to place the shark fin antenna on the rear of the cab which is completely covered by the camper overhang. The other frustration is that Toyota chose to use...

Why dont you use the yakima tracks and mount to them? Its probably 5-7" lower than the cross bars so it will have a lower profile, and less impact on mpg. Its page 5 in this thread. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/10391-running-heavier-wire-for-solar-panels/page-5

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

Almost 4 of the 8 weeks I was out, the temperature exceeded 100 degrees every day. No 3 way fridge is going to keep ice solid and food in the safe range for eating at those temps. Its the reason that the vast majority of users in Australia and Africa have ditched 3 way fridges for compressors...
