RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rooftop AC

I would be concerned about the weight because it is not distributed over a large area but will be concentrated in a small area. This might not be a problem with highway driving but any rough roads/trails could cause the frame or welds to crack. I have a 5k BTU unit in my Hawk where the rear...

Interesting. Will stick with wider section tires for the beach though.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting a Hawk on a Ford F250

I did the same as Jon R, fabricated my plates to fit the eye bolt location adding a small radius to fit the curvature of the bed.. On the plus side, you'll have a plate that will distribute the load/stress over a larger area. I used 3/16 aluminum plate in combo with a large fender washer.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charging four batteries with my new Victron BlueSmart IP65 charger

Couple things; you have two different battery types here, AGM and FLA all from different manufacturers. Also the fact that one battery is 9 years old and others are of various ages. I would suspect some of the batteries are having sulfating issues which is affecting the charging. If you have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shock Absorbers For the Extra Weight of a Camper

I've run Bilstein 4600 series on my 2006 Tundra and my F250, both trucks carried the Hawk camper full time. I was completely happy with their performance on both vehicles. Bilstein also makes a 5100 series shock that is designed for lifted trucks or higher cg vehicles or running oversized tires...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Longer Cabover

I have a 05 Hawk that the cab over bed converts into a queen with the pullout. With a longer cab over, there wouldn't be an intrusion of the pullout into the main area of the camper is what I'd like. Plus the added storage would be nice.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Longer Cabover

Wondering about the possibility of FWC ever building a camper that would allow for N/S sleeping arrangement. Would it be that big of a modification/redesign of the current frames to accommodate the extra weight out there on a longer lever arm. This would allow for storage on both sides of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable 100w Solar Panel

If the Harbor Frt panel holds up like their solar security lights(about 6-9 months) then I would pass on it. Spend a little more and get a Renogy or other brand name system.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fire Extinguisher

There are four classes of fire extinguishers – A, B, C and D – and each class can put out a different type of fire.1a Class A extinguishers will put out fires in ordinary combustibles including wood, cloth, rubber, paper, as well as many plastic materials. Class B extinguishers are for use on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Good Car Camping Tent

We have a Eureka Sunrise 6(3 season) that works well, plenty of room for 3-4. lots of open screen area for ventilation, not a great winter tent though. The timberline mentioned above is also a good rugged option, we still have our 25 year old 4 person Timberline, (probably needs waterproofing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do pop-up campers stay cool enough to leave a dog in?

I've have/had many dogs and would not leave them in our camper in those conditions.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do you think an FWC or a GFC would make more sense for full-time living in this situation?

If I had to live in it full time, I would opt for the bigger camper. Since you mentioned winter in the mountains, are both trucks 4X4?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Does this 2008 FWC eagle seem like a decent deal?

Looks ok but at that age I would check thoroughly for water damage/leaks. Headliner, exterior wood and around the door assy too. Give the fabric a once over as well

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Running Lights Wont Turn Off?

If you are disconnected from the truck, power has to be coming from the camper battery. What JonR said above and also check for a loose or disconected ground at the battery or a ground buss, camper frame(if lights are grounded there).

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Top Up or Down Storage

I leave mine closed except if we dont use it for awhile. In that case i open it to air out and uncrease the fabric. After 20+ years in the inflatable boat/liferaft business, you see the damage done when boats and rafts remain folded for months/years at a time. Hard creases will eventually cause...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rig Build with FWC Hawk

In responce to JonR's question. " I BELIEVE the solar wires coming from the solar charger, if you have one from the factory, are connected directly to the battery so the solar system can charge the battery even when the silver kill switch is off (can someone with factory solar please confirm...
