RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk roof repair

You might be surprised what you can do with just a couple blocks of wood, a little muscle power and/or a dead blow hammer. Aluminum can be tweaked quite easily unless there is a hard crease in it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Delaminating underside of Fleet

Your picture shows the outer veneer splitting which allows moisture to enter between the plys. A good coat of paint every few years will prevent this in the future. As for repairs, there is a product used in the marine industry called "Git Rot", it's a 2 part epoxy that will wick into the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Recomend a cheap charge controller.

You didn't specify the size of the system, my system is only 60w so I use a Morningstar Sunsaver . Quite pleased with its performance, very simple install. About $50-$60

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Push me over, or steer me away, from the edge - Hawk Flatbed

I might be a little late to the party but will chime in anyways. Originally mentioned; no front hitch mount for the bikes. I have a ranch hand grill guard on a F250/Hawk and built a bike rack that mounts to it. Bought a decent rack online for about 35 bucks and and couple ubolts from the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2005 Grandby Roof Repair Help

I used toluene, It's a carcinogen, so wear nitrile gloves and stay up wind if you don't have a respirator. I used it because it didn't remove the roof paint. like some other solvents.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2005 Grandby Roof Repair Help

I would remove and clean all fasteners on the top only, unless you see a problem with the side trim, be sure to check all side fasteners for tightness though. Do not use silicone sealant, use a polyurethane based sealant, 3m 5200 or 4200 are a couple good ones. Be sure to clean the surface...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Decision Made…. Little power help please

I would definitely do 2 batteries, even if the fridge is running on propane. You listed a fair number of things that will be running or charging off the system and you'll want the extra capacity for times when the sun doesn't make an appearance for a couple days. Along with the portable panel a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Tires For 1995 F350 & 1996 Squire 8000?

A quality E range tire should be enough but go heavier if you want. I would go with a decent all terrain tread, your not going to do any hard core offroad with a 3000lb (dry weight) camper on a f350 4X2. There are lots of all terrain tires these days that will give you great traction with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacing factory fridge with....

Ronin, just a thought, maybe you could install a A/C filter where the louvers are to cut down on trail dust etc. from getting in and still have enough air flow to vent the fridge. Easy enough to try just duct tape in place.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma or Tundra for pop up camper

Depending on the camper size and build out you choose, either can work. But I would go with the full size truck, either truck will require suspension and tire up grades. You'll find the Tundra with a small V8 will get about the same MPG as the Tacoma with the 6 cyl., because the 6 will be...

I'm in Texas and my rear window unit does an adequate job at 5000 BTUs, It will only get down to 70 when the outside temp hits mid 90s though. So don't cheat yourself on capacity. Nice thing about a window unit is cost, especially now with fall coming on, find a discounted unit at Home Depot...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar wiring on Eagle Shell - Help!

If your panel has the controller built in, and the wires coiled in the battery compartment are connected to the solar port, then crimp on some ring lugs. Plug in the panel output to the solar port. As a precaution I would check the polarity prior to making the battery connection, if all is good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tips for avoiding Condensation?

Air circulation is key for me. Keep a fan moving air and I get a huge reduction in condensation. I keep a small one on blowing into the cab over when the camper is closed also.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2017 F250 PSD - Tire question.

Michelins will work until you get into mud, then the tread will fill up and you'll just spin. If you expect muddy roads get a more aggressive tread.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No Leaks

Everyone here safe, others not very far away not so lucky. We had the camper(and all our vehicles) ready to roll if we had to get out. I'm not staying for a direct hit from a cat 3+ storm anytime. Very busy at the shop after something like this, we are a Zodiac Milpro dealer(Triad Marine) and as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No Leaks

Well, the Hawk got the ultimate test last weekend, we got over 40" inches of rain with Harvey. I popped the top Wed. and found Zero water intrusion. After resealing all roof screws and sealing along the roof edge strip, it seems all is good now. Stoked

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Would you buy another fwc

I have seen pics of a couple FWC that had a lower section below the standard overhang added for storage. Don't know if that is still available though. I think they would be smart to make that standard or optional, as storage seems to be a short coming of these campers. I would opt for the gas...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Warranty - corrosion, service and propane

Wallowa, you bring up an interesting point about a U.S. based camper traveling through Canada and having to fill propane tank(s). When I retire, I plan on spending some of my summers in Canada and since I run my fridge on propane, so I will need to return to the U.S. every 2 weeks or so to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a 110 volt outlet inside a FWC Hawk

If you just need an extra outlet when plugged into shore power; the previous owner of my Hawk piggy backed off of the factory 110v outlet and added an outlet near where the rear window was so the A/C unit that is there now has a power outlet. Works just fine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power issues

If you are just turning fridge on and it isn't precooled, then your amp draw is more than 2A. Not to say you don't have a battery issue but you might be drawing 4-5A(or more)/hr X 12hrs, trying to initially cool that fridge

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bumped into jack, rippled siding

Previous owner had a minor bump on the right rear jack causing a slight ripple in the siding on my Hawk. He straightened it out pretty well. It is hardly noticeable, doesn't leak and has not been an issue lifting the camper. I don't see any movement in the area either when it's under load. I...
