RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West North Umpqua River

138 is our favorite Central Cascades Road particularly because of the waterfalls but also beautiful in the spring due to blooming dogwoods and the blazing fall color. Our favorite waterfall is Grotto Falls but we also like Susan Creek Falls, Falls Creek Falls, Wolf Creek Falls, Whitehorse Falls...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ghost Towns

I think Nevada has the most as mining was so prevalent there. We have been to Belmont, Goldpoint, Candalaria, Delamar, Ralston, Ophir, Park City, Belleville, Columbus, Rhyolite, Galena to name them off the top. Some still have residents and others have been torn down. I think Park City and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West When Should Reservations For Alaska Ferry Open For May 2019?

We live in Bellingham so if you need a place to camp for free about 5 miles from the ferry, you can camp here. We used to have a camp ground but the neighbors complained so the county shut us down. But, we can have friends camp here. We still have a campsite for people we know. It is rustic but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Grand Adventure - Summer 2018

Those were some wonderful days for you. Isn’t is great that we can explore this fabulous country, especially the West? We enjoyed Lemhi Pass and Bannock (a movie was being filmed while we were there 2 years ago). I like how you get out there and really explore. The photos are very excellent at...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Nevada trip report 2018-10

Hi Foy, yes, we have been there and plan to revisit. We enjoy Lemhi Pass, Yaak River and the areas around Challis and Salmon. We also drove the Moon Road south from Wallace to St Joe River. It was an old RR line so I think we drove through 7 tunnels. Beautiful area.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Waving at fellow Pop-Top Camper folks

Yes, we wondered whose hopes and dreams were left behind. The local guy told us it was always called “The Old Hooper Place” because a Native American named Hooper lived there for awhile or at least that is what his dad said. A ranch up the road, Pine Creek Ranch owns it now. He also said Pine...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Nevada trip report 2018-10

We have pretty much given up on Utah, Eastern Sierra, anywhere near National Parks just because all the crowds, even in late October, spoil the experience for us. I guess when we are enjoying what Nature has to offer, we prefer the solitude to contemplate and enjoy without the presence of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Waving at fellow Pop-Top Camper folks

I think I will do the two finger peace salute. That may be the WTW hello wave. When we are driving the gravel roads or county or statepaved roads, especially in Eastern Oregon and Nevada, we get a nod, wave or a smile from folks in trucks. Usually, they are hunters, ranchers or other locals...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Nevada trip report 2018-10

We just returned from a 4 week camping trip from NW Washington to Nevada via OREGON and a tiny slice of California. I quit blogging as no one ever read them anyway but did do a more visual journal using the Morpholio app on my iPad. I wanted to upload one but file size is too large. I post on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Waving at fellow Pop-Top Camper folks

Whenever we see a pop up truck camper going down the road, we wave. More often than not, it is not returned. We were hoping to say hi maybe to fellow WTW members. Then, last week on 140 in Oregon east of Lakeview, we got a \/ from a woman in a Four Wheel pop up. Maybe the fact that we waved but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping along the Loneliest Hwy?

I think Nevada’s Highway 6 is lonelier. We run into very few vehicles. It is even more remote exploring the mountains and valleys between the two highways. It is one of our fave areas to explore.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wyoming Back Roads

Ditto Green River Lakes. There is a campground on the lake but you can disperse camp along the river. Beautiful in the fall, late September.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BLACK ROCK RENDEZVOUS, 2018 (Nevada)

We were near there and turned tail when the “unsettled weather” came in. Rain, wind, thunder and lightning. Weather was better in the PNW. We explored Warner Mountains, Sheldon, a few back roads like Hays Canyon, Lost Creek and others. We love the desolation and isolation coming from the verdant...

That is hubbys favorite. The Tillamook tasting center either just reopened or will reopen very soon. We found the cheapest at Whole Foods.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West San Juan Islands 2018

Planning right now to spend at least a week there during the one nice week we have during March or April. The ferry is less than an hour away. The ferry rates are increasing again this year in October as they did last. Small price to visit some of the most beautiful islands anywhere.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Conservation in the West poll

Fascinating. Thanks for the link. And, I wonder why the change? Millennials, Baby Boomers retiring? Or, just that our lives are so hectic that we crave a respite in the arms of Mother Nature?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Your Input is NEEDED NOW!

Hi Smoke, You pointed out a great area to explore between NE California and Western Nevada. It’s beautiful there and quiet. We plan to do more rockhounding in that area this spring. Happy camping.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Your Input is NEEDED NOW!

Because Nevada is closer and less crowded, we choose to explore there. Ski3pin has many TRs there and if you use Google Earth you will discover some amazing places. Ditto, Eastern Oregon, SW Wyoming, any part of Idaho, etc. I, too, am disgusted about the politicalization of our public lands. I...
