RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rotopax installed on FWC Hawk Backwall

Very well done and very well illustrated too! Thank you for the writeup.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to the world of FWC

Welcome, Ron. I'm sure you've already realized how quickly a FWC becomes a home away from home.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OX14 video trailer, starring FWC

Sort of. It's much easier to access - you can be on the rim only five or six miles from 89A - but of course Marble Canyon isn't the "full" Grand Canyon. Breathtaking nevertheless. And Toroweap can seem a bit crowded these days - relatively speaking of course. We had that Marble Canyon camp all...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone seen this? Solar Cube

Interesting concept, but I can't see how many watts of input it has, or the capacity of the battery?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OX14 video trailer, starring FWC

You're right, it was Marble Canyon. All the grandeur, none of the crowds of the South Rim. And yes, the crowded camp, dog, and screaming baby were all stock footage.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OX14 video trailer, starring FWC

That was stock footage we purchased, so we wouldn't actually have to visit such a place! And yes - the aerial footage was courtesy a Phantom quadcopter and GoPro.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West OX14 video trailer, starring FWC

Everyone, We just wrapped up the promo video for the 2014 Overland Expo. Since a Four Wheel Camper figures heavily in it, I thought I'd share the link, HERE.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advantages of front dinette seating

Yes - view out the window(s) is poor from either style dinette. After owning both, we much prefer the front dinette for two people. It leaves the galley completely clear for the cook, creates a much nicer face-to-face eating arrangement, and of course there's the hot shower . . .

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West truck suspension upgrade

I've driven Tom's truck and it rides superbly. However, his camper is on all the time. I can't imagine a set of leaf springs that could retain remotely similar ride characteristics with a 1,000-pound difference in load.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West truck suspension upgrade

I'm not sure why so many people are reticent regarding air bags. Many sophisticated, and heavy-duty, vehicles use them as primary springs. In an auxiliary fitting with the stock leaf springs left in place there is much to recommend them. We're running Boss air bags on our Tacoma and have been...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West another roof mounting question

I mounted Yakima racks to our first FWC by drilling all the way through the roof through frame members, using bolts and fender washers, and sealing each hole well. It worked without trouble, and supported two sea kayaks, so doing the same for a solar panel should be simple. You don't want to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel...

Michael, The loss from the cable on a remote system would be minimal, and more than offset by the advantage of being able to keep the panel or panels oriented ideally. It also allows you to park in the shade and leave your panel in the sun. The disadvantage is that the larger panels are pretty...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel...

Michael, Your largest potential draws are the furnace and fridge, although running both fans at once could add up too. Fortunately when one needs the furnace the fridge and fans are unlikely to be working too hard, and vice versa. Nevertheless, I'd suggest at least a single 100-watt panel if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Folding Solar Panels

Absolutely. Each charge controller would use the battery voltage to control its own panel input.

Sorry, my fault. It should work now.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A high-quality outdoor camp table with no loss of internal storage space

Williak - That's a fantastic idea. You could easily carry a 125-watt (or any other size) panel in that space, and assemble a plug-in wiring loom for it. Deployment would take no longer than the table.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A high-quality outdoor camp table with no loss of internal storage space

Ramblinman, PM sent. To summarize for anyone else interested: I think the differences between the top brands (Leica, Swarovski, and Zeiss) are so small that personal preference in handling and even looks plays more of a part in choosing than any microscopic differences in optical quality. They...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A high-quality outdoor camp table with no loss of internal storage space

To all you FWC owners (or anyone with a cabover camper): We wanted a sturdy camp table for eating and working outside, but didn't want to take up storage space in the camper or truck. Our solution involved exploiting the space between the camper overhang and the track cab's roof. We used an...

Regarding the ratchet strap tie-downs: I used these, from Mac's Tie Downs, installed on the fronts of the dinette seats above the shower grate: The ring snaps out in a second if you don't need it, leaving a nearly flush and non-shin-barking base: They're quite strong and easy to install...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Steps and storage in one

We needed some moderately sized storage boxes to strap down in the back of our FWC, one to hold recovery gear, another to hold the things we need to pitch camp, like the drain hose for the galley sink, leveling blocks, stakes and guy lines for the awning, etc., and a third to hold boots and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Carrying on the Roof questions

On our original FWC I fabricated a set of square-tube aluminum bases on which were welded short pieces of aluminum angle iron to serve as pseudo rain gutters. I bolted the bases through the roof (with plenty of sealant), and mounted stock Thule towers and bars on them. They served very well, and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Air Bag brands

Newbie, take a look at Boss air bags. They're the most solid bags I've seen. We have them on the JATAC and have abused them on tough trails in the Sierra Madre in Mexico with zero ill effects. The hardware is solid; the bags themselves have a working load range to 160 psi but are tested to 750...
