RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

I never owned a Blitz can—or a Scepter—that didn't leak, and I've never owned a NATO can that did. No one will ever know why the U.S. military, which had access to a German fuel can early in WWII, didn't simply clone it as the Brits did, but instead tried to cut costs with the crimped seam and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2019-2020 Tundra Double Cab ?

I believe the Double Cab is what we think of as an extended cab. We have a 2014 Double Cab with a 6.5-foot bed and the 4.6. I can get 17 mpg out of it on 60-65mph highways with a cab-height shell on the back. Around town hypermiling will get me between 14 and 15.

You're right about the Swiss extension—they're unsurpassed. But as long as the nozzle has the proper oblong vent it will drain the can pretty quickly.

Thom, unleaded-compatible cammed nozzles are available from Wavian. If they don't have them they're on Amazon. I agree about the screw-top versions, which significantly curtail the advantages of the NATO system. The cammed unit is expensive but worth the price.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cross-winding winch line

Those of you who own winches might hear about this technique. I think it's unnecessary at best and bogus at worst, and so does every winching expert I asked. FYI. Cross-lining

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I got an electric F150

Congratulations! Just as when ICE-engined vehicles were first introduced, electric vehicles are improving rapidly in all areas. Don't let the Luddites dampen your enthusiasm.

Rob, I'd go with the Wavian. I've heard yes and no on whether the Gelg is made with slightly thinner steel. In any case Wavian has better infrastructure in the U.S.

Mike . . . congratulations for paying such close attention to your weights and GVWR! Very few people do, and very few people realize how much weights add up with seemingly inconsequential items on the truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Interesting Video on Camping Gear Organization

All the Step 22 gear I've reviewed and used has been top notch. The Pangolin roll-up tool bag is brilliant.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help set up my F150 for a FWC Hawk

Sagebrusher, if what you have is working, don't fret about it! On most trucks, "payload capacity" does not necessarily equate to "you can carry this much weight in it permanently and it will still sit, handle, and stop properly." It has more to do with picking up the occasional load of bricks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma wind struggles?

Thom, I'm curious about your statement that it is a fact of life that Toyota engines "use a little oil" when their full power band is utilized, as not only have I never heard this before, but it goes directly against pretty extensive personal experience, from the days when I hauled a trailer...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Toyota dealer wouldn't work on my truck w/ camper attached.

This sounds to me like an over-the-top way to avoid any kind of culpability if something happened on their lift. The issue with lifting a Tacoma with camper isn't weight, it's balance and the flex in the open-channel rear section of the chassis. Normally the rear lifting pads could be placed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power Stop Brakes

You seem to have lumped me in among the "haters," which is simply wrong. It was my determination to uncover the truth that led to a several-week-long investigation of aftermarket brake systems, including phone calls with several engineers. None of those engineers—not one—was a proponent of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upgrading Chevy Brakes

Here is a company that advertises a "big brake kit" for the Colorado. It might be worth investigating. Some of these kits require going up in wheel size as well; others manage to employ a slightly larger diameter or thicker rotor within the stock wheel size.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upgrading Chevy Brakes

The ad does not say if their rotors are larger or wider than stock, which means they almost certainly are not. Drilling for "cooling" does absolutely zero; that's pure marketing hype. Drilling reduces the mass of the rotor, and the rotor relies on mass to absorb and dissipate heat. I've seen ads...
