RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Poptops In Yellowstone

From a previous thread: http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/4836-truck-pop-up-campers-are-now-griz-approved/?hl=%2Bgriz+%2Bapproved After that fatal attack I camped there soon after and a FWC was considered a hard side.

In addition to Expo I would also post on RV.net in the truck camper forum. Large group there.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Auto or Manual transmission with Diesel

GM and Ford no longer even offer a stick transmission. Ram does but only with the derated lower output motor. The only manual shifter I own is my Harley.

"Learn what you can about the problems with the 6.4 Powerstroke." I wasn't going to comment, but yes do your homework on that engine. This is a forum for ford diesel owners: http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f35/common-problems-look-im-new-6-4s-293422/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tall People?!?

I'm closer to 6'4" and my Hawk has plenty of headroom....at least 6'6" I think on the newer models. My older 83 Grandby was tight. I would just kinda graze the ceiling. Your call on the little trucks and dance parties. Myself, I would never consider anything smaller than my Hawk on a 3/4 ton...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar in a bag

This is the one I have been looking at: http://www.renogy-store.com/100W-Suitcase-p/kit-stcs100d.htm Good reviews, good price and free shipping. Really though for your stated use I can't imagine you would need any solar at all. I have the big 110L electric frig, furnace and fluorescent lights...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's under your camper?

There are four equally spaced 3" wide by 5/8" thick plywood stringers that appear to run the length of the camper in a N-S orientation. I say "appear to" as I can only see the back 3 or 4" of the underside of the camper. I have a LineX spray in liner with a DeeZee rubber bed mat on top of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What's under your camper?

When I sold my twenty-five year old Grandby the floor/base looked fine. It was mounted pretty much full time and on a rubber mat. Also, from what I can tell on my new Hawk, the base isn't a flat sheet of plywood against the mat but has wood struts allowing ventilation?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Grandby Tiedown Options

FWC used to use four elevator bolts through the floor with fender washers and lock washers. You shouldn't need any homemade brackets. That system worked great on my old Grandby. I would also recommend a rubber bed mat.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk on a Ram 1500

This really isn't all that complicated....it's a simple math problem. You mentioned Ram, go here for payload ratings: http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2014/docs/ram/rammlup1500.pdf A crew cab 4x4 could have as little as 1,300 pound max payload rating. My Hawk with some common options was 1,340...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help in PDX needed! Deer + Truck = Remove FWC

Try some rental stores. On my previous camper I rented the tripod base camper jacks with a hand cable winch to raise and lower. For instance: http://www.totalrentalcenter.biz/equipment.asp?action=category&category=7 $10 for 3 hours in Gresham, OR wherever that is.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1980 grandby

Had the same thing on my 1983 Grandby. Mine was supplied with basically a nylon tarp with a sewen in rope that fed in through the channel. Drop the latch or raise the top and was used with two staked out tent poles. Don't know where you could find the tarp. Never used mine much.....maybe four...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Battery Tenders and solar plugs don't play well together

I don't have my solar panels yet but I thought I'd charge my camper batteries by plugging in my Battery Tender to the SAE solar wall plug. The Tender immediately started flashing a reverse polarity warning. Being the electrical genius that I am I immediately concluded that the plug was wired...

X2 Another function that most ex military know about is they make a good toilet. Fold into the pick position and you have a one cheek stand. Under $20 but look for the genuine USGI version, not the Chinese copies. A million or so grunts can't be wrong.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Our Denali trip 2011

Thanks for sharing, great pictures....I have been debating the drive up recently and I like your idea of the ferry for part of the trip. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2014 Ram Heavy Duty Fifth Wheel Prep - Camper Attachment?

Thats how FWC used to do it back in the olden days when the factory was in Denver (they still do if you want...I think). My brand new 1983 Granby was mounted with four elevator bolts through the camper floor into the bed of my truck. Twenty five years with that set up and no problems. No...

I'm slowly starting to come around to this solar thing. Is this the Zamp 80w portable that would be suitable for my Waeco 110L: http://www.zampsolar.com/index.php?m=87&s=581&c=&id=1213 Expensive compared to the previous "bag" deals but it appears to be a quality system....waterproof, sae...

Ice cream warning. On a week long hunting trip last fall I noticed my Dove bars were melting into a rather delicious Dove milk shake. I contacted Waeco and they confirmed my suspicion that due to the cold weather (lows in the teens and highs in forties) the unit didn't cycle enough to keep...
