x3 Stop looking at 1/2 tons and set your sites on 3/4 tons. Loaded you'll be way over your max payload. My Hawk and stuff comes in at over a ton on the scales. Buy the right tool for the job at hand.

There in lies the problem. The specs show a max payload of up to 1,600 pounds for the GMC, 300 more than its main competition the Tacoma. Even so I am carrying almost a 1,000 pounds over what they offer as their max payload.

I probably went 5 or 6 miles from the highway down closer to one of the lakes. It is a rough 4wd road after about two miles......a beautiful area. Dress warm as it can snow anytime of the year up there. There is also a campground on the west side of the highway, Island in the Sky I believe...
