RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BFG A/T's kinda disappointing?

Hmmm. What vehicles use load range E tires as original equipment? All or most 3/4 ton and up trucks come with E tires and rims to match the capacity. Now the question is which trucks come with these particular BFG tires OEM. My last couple Dodges used Michelin.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Decisions

I would wait till the good weather comes back, drive out and pick up the camper and then see the sights taking some time on the way back, making the most of the camper and your vacation days together. Tough waiting, but the camper won't need much work (assuming it is not a shell) so no real...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charge up

The A/C turning on could be lowering the engine RPM just enough to cause the alternator voltage output to drop. Make you raise the RPM and retest the voltage, AC running and also not running.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Traded out my truck

I traded my 2005 RAM 1500 short bed with 30,000 mi for a 2005 RAM 2500 with 55,000 2 years ago so I could carry a full size camper. Both were 5.7 Hemi gassers. So about the same swap. I have about 18K miles on the 2500 now with many trips to eastern WA, Idaho, and Oregon, and one to Moab...

No pics, too cold outside for me... 12"x12" stretchy cargo net attached to 5 d-rings in front of the open space forward of the counter in a Grandby. I stack my sleeping bag and blamkets and at times my motocycle helmet and other gear in that space. The net clears the bit of front window...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Faucet Upgrade

My 2006 seems to be metal, but it barely cleared the sink. For under $6 and a lot less trouble, I added a double swivel faucet nozzle from the local hardware store. If I pull it out, it transforms to an aerated stream, push, regular solid water stream. I can point it to wash down all...

A common strategy to deal with this is the ACR, automatic charging relay, or voltage sensing relay. It monitors the primary battery voltage and after it is reasonably charged and receiving excess charge source, then connects the secondary (aux, house) battery and it rises in voltage as it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West winterizing in rainy cold Western Washington

We get tons of rain mixed with the cold which takes the fun out of camping on the wet side of Washington here in the winters. Still some like to camp at the snowmobile and skiing areas, most are on the eastside of the state and much drier conditions. The west side is very steep and mild temps...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West winterizing in rainy cold Western Washington

You may want to look at your internal piping inside the counters. I believe FWC should have instructions on how to drain your pipes, and (I think) they started recently installing the piping to remove low spots and have a low point drain. On my 2006 I removed the cabinet front and took a good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Power

Correct either one assuming they are wired with short large diameter cables. If long cables are used (batteries far apart) I might prefer the one closer to the alternator to maximize the voltage reaching the camper battery. If that means significantly longer wiring to the camper, then I would...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Power

Diesels often have 2 batteries in parallel to get the extra cranking power they like to have. I believe the Dodge diesels are that way also, but they are not physically located together so have a fair amount of wire loss during starting. The Dodge hemi version uses the 2nd battery mounting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LED or Fluorescent ?

The housing in the picture looks very similar to the stock lights in my 2006 Grandby which came with incandescant bulbs and used a rocker switch. Both bulbs come on, not switched separate. The bulbs were plenty of light for me though they draw 3amps. I replaced them with the Startlights NL250...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper Power

I don't have a Ford, but are your under hood batteries wired in parallel? If so, then it does not matter. You might have a spare fuse position in your main fuse block also. Else attach a breaker or fuse close to your chosen battery.

Pretty sure the stock monitor panel is off the load side of the ACR if you have one installed, and if you have a master power cutoff switch, it is likely wired on the power panel side of that switch. Easy test, open the master switch, everything turns off, including the battery monitor. I do...

Bike on the rack, more freedom to go where you want, and the bike (if plated) lets you go more places also, including in the National Parks like Arches and Canyonlands. You can cover much more ground on the bike. For example, White Rim takes me 6-8 hours each time on a bike, so an easy day...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LED or Fluorescent ?

I know nothing about the 98 Chevy. I had a 2005 RAM 1500 short bed and it would have done OK with airbags though the suspension would have been stressed. I traded it in for a 2005 RAM2500 long bed. Same 5.7L gasser. The RAM1500 had lighter rated wheels and D range tires and only 1460lbs...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LED or Fluorescent ?

I like the stock approach because it is easy to decide when and what type/color of LED you want and put them in the bulb socket(s), the stock incandescant housings are fine. It is not an upgrade you have to immediately worry about. Besides if you get the camper with all the mods on day one, how...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New (to me) Truck ideas and opinions

Quad Cab is Dodge's name for it. Later models offer Mega-Cab. 112miles the engine is barely broken in :-). The camper will barely be noticed, a nice feeling I am sure you will notice.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West camper battery won't charge

You want to trace the path of the voltage between your truck battery, it's fuse or breaker, to the connector in your truck bed, make sure it is plugged in tight and is not corroded. Pull the plug and measure all pins inside for 12VDC. You can put the negative lead on any bare metal part of the...
