RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a lithium Ion battery to FWC

48 amps at a time. That is very impressive and effective. Nice work. I have a magnum inverter/charger on my toy hauler that can do up to 50 amps and it makes charging much easier. With lithium batteries that would make charging crazy fast.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to Pass the Time

I feel your pain for sure. I am 6 weeks into my order that is still 6 weeks away on my new Grandby. I have been trying to figure out how to modify my new one since that was my big hobby the first time around on my Hawk. It's never too early to start thinking about how to make a new camper even...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West "Smart" brand lithium battery - drop in replacement (?)

These batteries have tremendous potential. Lighter weight, deeper discharge potential and faster charging are all welcome changes. Once this is realized our solar panels or our trucks will easily charge our camper batteries just like our cellphones. It is a linear relationship of charging, very...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West more sitting room around dinette table?

Which set up is your camper? I have seen the hallmark campers too and do like their side dinette setup for several people to eat at. We added a swivel lagun table to a rollover coach model that helped several of us eat inside of a hawk. But it was still very crowed with a growing family. So...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How many charging amps from IOTA?

4 amps would be very low on a highly discharged battery from the IOTA. I have often seen amps from 20-28 amps on the IOTA with the IQ4. I wonder if your batteries are bad. I would disconnect them from the system and try a different charger to see if it makes a difference.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

Longhorn, This is one of the common issues with judging battery power based on voltage alone. With a battery monitor you would also know amps and percentage of battery charge which would be very helpful to you. I am not surprised by your readings from your post and are probably due to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

DonC, Something is definetly up. I don't think 6 panels in a row is a fluke. What is the story on the rigid panel? Are they still producing power? You may need Ethergore or maybe even consider an electrician who understands 12 volt (not all of them do) to check out your system. I am highly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar- Still going vs Dead

I was very tempted to do this, but did not. You could certainly make a waterproof connection and still make it work. But in the end, I did just what you did. It doesn't look as pretty, but works great.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar- Still going vs Dead

Alan, You may be right on the air circulation part, but I always wonder about the other possibilities. I guess it's an occupational thing! I did not cut my MC4 connections. I do have a fuse and used the same wiring from FWC. My panels were not purchased through Renogy but another seller from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar- Still going vs Dead

This has been an interesting discussion for me to watch. I am curious to know why these panels have failed (probably like everyone else). I appear to have one of the longest running set of panels to this point. In those panels that have failed has anyone: Modified the MC4 connectors? Added a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar - informal survey of brands and customer satisfaction

I purchased through discount solar off eBay. I bought 2 x 120 watt panels and 1 x 100 watts. 30 amp MPPT controller. Going on 1.5-2 years of service with no issues. I've installed hard panels on a few other trailers and have not noticed any significant change in performance with flexible...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Flexible Solar Panels - successes and warranty replacements

The solar power generated from a 160 watt panel should be close to 9-10 amps charging at full sunlight. That would be enough power to both charge your batteries and run the compressor fridge at the same time. One of the most common mistake people make is not having enough solar to charge and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Flexible Solar Panels - successes and warranty replacements

I'm sorry to hear of people having an issue with these panels. I've personally had 3 of them on my roof for over 1.5 years without an issue. I did not buy them through Renogy but I own several other panels from them. I really enjoy my setup and with our types of campers think this is an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk Owner - Battery Question

Log Hog, Do you have a heater in your camper? I would think 35 amp hours is a really small battery and not sufficient for most of us off grid for several days at a time. I think you would need to have a larger battery or another way to recharge it - like solar or a generator. If you are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerators revisited

I just returned from Boy Scout camp for the week with my troop. I ran 2 different fridges for the entire week. My 110 litter compressor fridge and my 63 quart ARB fridge. The 110 litter one I used for drinks and kept it at 34 degrees. The ARB was kept at 10 degrees for ice cream and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Electrical confusion...

Don, A few ideas for you: 1- The battery isolator in your camper could have failed or occasionally not working. You can tell this is the case by measuring the voltage in your truck batteries and then checking your trimetric to look at the camper batteries. If the voltage is above the set point...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West purchase FWC factory solar? Or?

Advmoto, I have owned a Zamp 200 watt portable panel. It was a very nice system and works great, but it is huge. It was awkward to set up and took up a ton of space when I went anywhere. I would not recommend it for that reason alone. I finally just mounted it to the roof of my rv and it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advice for buying used

I completely understand you frustration with trying to get a value on used FWC. First FWC I went to see was a Hawk model that I drove 4 hours one way to look at.
