RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need more power Scotty!

Vic, You are a serious researcher. You've posted some great info and links here. I went with the MPPT controller because of my 24 volt panels and love the setup. But for the many reasons you listed, the combo controller monitor of the trimetric is hard to beat. If I did not have 24 volt...

Great solar report. Glad the upgrades are working so well. 90% by noon in October is great, especially if you are using your heater a lot at night. Hope your son's leg heals quickly.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need more power Scotty!

Vic, I've been gone for days and just catching up on your outstanding posts. Great work on educating our group on electrical power. You mentioned before about using a 300 amp hour plus battery system. Do you have room for that big of a battery? I went with 225 amp hours because that's all I...

I really like the new cushions. What a great upgrade. How much was it to do it? Was it hard to get the right size figured out?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Max Wind With Hawk Top Up?

Stopped for a quick lunch and put the top down but forgot to buckle it down. I have lift assists, so it doesn't take much to pop it up.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Max Wind With Hawk Top Up?

I thought we agreed not to share that story anymore! But yes, no damage at 75 mph, except my ego of course. I would have driven for many more miles if the radio reception change had not occurred and tipped me off that something was wrong.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West roof lifter thingy strut strength with solar panel?

I did go with the higher lift assist - 50 lbs front and rear if I remember correctly. I've had no issues so far with it. I believe the reason that FWC doesn't want higher than 40 lbs is that it's challenging to get the roof down after that. I close the door and turn on my fan when I take...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

I did hear back today from a FWC dealer that the Blue Sea ACR is now being used on all new campers in place of the prior battery isolator/separator. Great work FWC! Maybe someone is reading our posts!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Swift camper purchas decisions

I'll add my two cents. I've owned 3 FWC's and only my current one has a hot water heater. It was the last option I added and it's fantastic. You get 6 extra gallons of water to take. Plus the hot water to shower and wash your dishes is great. I have the outdoor shower option with it. I don't...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

Charlie, Ron is correct that you do not need the switch to run the system. You could manually switch or override the system on the ACR directly. You could also probably figure out when it's on or off based on your trimetric. The switch just makes all of this simpler. You know if the system is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

Nice work Ron. What size wire did you use from the ACR to the truck? The Blue Sea ACR is meant to handle way more charge than I ever use it for. It could certainly handle what Ron is doing if the wire gauge is enough. The gauge of wire is certainly the limiting factor in my system now...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Automatic Charge Relay - How to Improve your battery isolator

Charlie, It is a direct replacement and fairly easy to do. The switch adds a lot to the system and I'd recommend it, but you can certainly run the system without it. The switch takes a lot more time (and wiring) to make it work. I have been thinking a lot about upgrading my truck wiring to...

Advmoto 18, That's for the kind feedback. I was not aware that FWC had made that switch. It would be a good one that would positively impact a lot of their customers. Peter K, I'm glad this has been helpful to you. I've really liked it and I use it all the time when I camp. It also keeps my...

I have actually done this exact mod on my last camper. It is a pretty neat feature but does have some drawbacks. Positives: Motion sensor lets you know when something is around the camper at night It's a brighter, nicer light than our current one If it's super dark it is nice to have the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West King size bed Hawk and a Sailboat

The model that we saw at Overland EXPO this year had that. It was a pretty neat setup and had under the bed storage to boot. I think it would be a great selling feature for them. You are correct on the bed setup/take down, it's doable but takes time and effort.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West King size bed Hawk and a Sailboat

We have the king sized pull out in the Grandby. It's a fantastic option and one of my favorites. I originally thought that I'd rarely take the extra cushions to make this work but now I do it on almost all trips.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawk - Side Storage Compartment?

Phil, I have personally been to XP's shop and in many of their campers over the last few years. It's not really fair to compare a $80,000 XP to a $20,000 FWC. They are very different and for different kind of camping experiences. Kind of like comparing a honda civic to a Tesla. They both go...
