RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Questions regarding "So, you want to setup a good electrical system in your camper?"

I'm not sure which do it, but I am under the impression that later trucks have parallel circuits for their trailer light receptacles. Which means that the trailer lights are NOT on the same fuses as the truck's lights. If that is the case then I would split the lights at the backside of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Honey the dog's grave site

We did not. The 8'+ deep vertical sided wash-out that stopped us is maybe 3/4 of the way up the alluvial flow to the canyon mouth and it was way too late in the day for the distance. To give some idea of what cut across the road: Can see the beginning of the debris and damage to the right of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West MaxTrax? High Lift?

Exactly the advice I was given when asking about mud and snow on the roads going into Toroweep in Feb many years ago. "Don't fight a stuck, wait for the evening. It will freeze and you can drive right out!"

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West greasing uac while traveling

What type of grease are you using? I have used "Red-I" in some very demanding applications including one in an extremely abrasive environment and been pleased with the results. It could be that with the right grease that your service intervals can be extended.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Honey the dog's grave site

On the chance that Honey's humans are here I thought that you'd like to know that the devastation that the 'atmospheric river' visited upon the road to up to the Champion Spark-Plug Mine did NOT affect her grave site. Just barely past there is a 8'-10' deep gouge across the road that renders it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West any suggestions for a vac!

Bought a Milwaukee spot-vac because it shares the M12 Fuel batteries with other tools that I own. It is a spot-vac and is good at that function, but you're going to be disappointed it you're expecting it to be a shop-vac or even home vacuum.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Orion DC-DC Charger Question

Merely connecting-disconnecting-connecting the Anderson connector(s) should help quite a bit with the corrosion where it matters the most. Their contact's geometry is designed with a heavy wiping action intended to remove surface corrosion. This is a normal design element in any properly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DC-DC charger ground question

The DC-DC charger's input negative would always be common to chassis ground. I guess what I'm asking is if the output negative is always connected to the input negative regardless of the DC-DC charger's status. If it is then the output negative is always common to chassis ground. If it is not...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DC-DC charger ground question

I don't have or need one with my current vintage of rigs, but I was pondering a question that came up about integrating solar with one. Do DC-DC chargers float their ground or are they common to chassis ground? What lead to this question was pondering how to get the solar to also charge the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fantastic Fan opens itself and destroys itself: Easy to Remove and Replace with MaxxAir?

I'll have to look at the brand in our camper (I *think that they are FF's but can't swear to it), but they have a secondary rotary latch for the vent caps. The lift arm isn't strong enough to over-come the latch when latched as I've found out several times. I've yet to break anything, but I have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Recovery Board Storage

My go-to for something like this are now nearly unobtainium. Harley-Davidson used to ship their motorcycles on a pallet and they were secured to the pallet with a pair of 1" ratchet straps. The key feature of these straps is that they are intended to be used in a loop, they have no hooks. I used...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to TC Pop-ups....questions

What indicates the need for a roof and side re-seal? There is a torsion bar supported 'X' brace system the holds the roof up or down. The lower-inner legs of the X on one end are connected to long threaded bar. Turning that bar raises or lowers the roof. The system on our Chucara XL has an...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West do i need airbags?

Our old 6.5' Phoenix didn't level our '96 CTD Club Cab 3/4t. Our current Chucara XL 9.5 does level the truck. Camper sits on the truck full time. Not a fan of air springs, but I do recognize their utility with large variations in loading. If the truck will be loaded more often than not even when...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Varmints!

I have read of others wiring in some small LED lights for under the hood. Seems like it shouldn't take much light to make them not like being there, but it probably would need to be evenly distributed. Maybe a ribbon of LEDs circling the engine bay on a PWM to turn down the amount of light?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Follow up question on wiring on Flatbed Hawk

I attached a weather-tight junction box to our camper. On the bottom of it I put in a weather-tight cord grip for each cable. Ours is hidden under the bed rail where it's esthetics aren't important. It is a pig-tail coming out of the camper that goes to the bed wall mounted Anderson SB...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West In line fuse size needed for small water pump.

Does the motor have a data sticker on it? I would use a fuse of the next increment greater than the rated amps, and be prepared to increase it one more increment depending on how much in-rush current the motor has on worst case start-up.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Tires Needed

Previous tires on our CTD/Camper were Yokohama GO15 A/T's in a 315/70R17 size. We got about 50k out of them. IF I recall correctly they were Load Range D's with a 50 psi max cold pressure rating. I ran them at 50 on the pavement and at 40 on the rougher dirt stretches. I thought them to be great...
