RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar panel longevity?

With limited testing, I haven't found much difference between the two. I also have a 4th panel that is mounted on a foam core to move around during the late afternoon sun.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar panel longevity?

I haven't Bill, but thats a good idea. I also need to seal the Weld Mount/VHB with some Dicor before it gets dirty. This is a new install.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

Well, I now have the Hawk on the new truck and went with the Torklifts. Not as pretty with the internal bed mount but I like how sturdy and easy the mounting process is with this truck. Plus, I don't have to worry about the bed being bent overtime.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flexible Solar panel longevity?

Thought I would share my recent solar update to my Hawk. I removed my two Grape Solar panels (53#'s) and replace them with 3 Cynergy 120w panels from Solarblvd.com. Lots of great ideas on solar installs here and just wanted to add my 2 cents for others to consider. I've had great success using...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

Vic, sorry I was not clear in my request. I decided to use the Torklift external frame mounts. So I was referring to hooking up to the frame mounts using the corner post instead of the bed mounts. Thank you for going through the trouble of taking photos of your hookups. Your installation looks...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

Those of you using the Torklifts, where are you attaching to the camper. FWC suggested using eyebolts through the existing jack attachment points. Seems to me, with the pull down tension, there might exist a potential bending of the post?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

I don't currently have the camper on the truck as I'm just now installing the Torklift kits. I did measure the camper and according to my tape rule, the end of the camper to the start of the hitch opening is approximately 8.5". Hope that helps. Harv

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

I'm not sure if I spoke to someone who was qualified (he sounded confident in answering). They picked the phone and said he would try and answer my questions. Probably need to make another call and double check.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

Most I've done is going down Canyonlands White Rim trail. No major rock climbing. These new (2017+) Super Duties are suppose to have a stiffer closed box frame.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F250 cab clearance with Hawk

Had my 2013 Hawk on a 2013 F150 and just got my new 2018 F250. What I thought would be a 5" clearance from the top of the truck cab to the bottom of Hawk overhang is actually 2" with this new truck. FWC is saying, I should really have a 3"-6" clearance to be safe. I wonder if anyone has had...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I'm too far from their WA headquarters to make it worth the trip. They did tell me that they are still waiting to see a 2018 to verify the fit.

Vic, what model of the fastguns are you using? Do they have a spring load like the ones for the outside?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

I like the Happijac front install location. Doesn't interfere with any running boards/gas cap? At least it appears that way. I also like the shorter distance to the anchor point of the camper. The Torklift rear appears to be an easier install.

Does this present a need to readjust when reinstalling the camper if the position is not exactly in the same spot?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TorkLift or standard bed install?

I have a 2018 F250 on order to replace my 2013 F150. I'm really excited about this upgrade and looking forward to all the nice improvements. I've been checking out the possibility of installing my Hawk using the TorkLift system and would like to hear about the good and bad of this option. As I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Low cost DIY Lithium camper batteries.

Rando, I'm getting ready to assemble my battery and wondered what are your thoughts on solder vs spot welding? Seems to have much arguments against using a hot iron on the batteries. Buying a spot welder would negate the cost effectiveness of this build. By the way, I did order those plastic...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel Mounts (AM Solar tilt-able)

I have two complete sets of mounts for two solar panels. These are tilt-able mounts. Once installed, you can tilt the panel in either direction to meet the sun angle. I've had these on my Hawk and recently removed them due to a change in panels/mounting. Made of stainless, I cleaned them up and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium update

The IOTA converter is the standard converter installed by FWC. This is the one: https://www.iotaengineering.com/dls30.htm On my previous post in this thread, I discuss a switch tied into the SBMS input #2 that allows me to select either Alternator or IOTA. Go back a couple pages. The DC-DC...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium update

I have had my SBMS 60 operational for over a year now. While I have it wired to charge via the alternator or IOTA, I've not used that very much while on the road due to the solar panels (310 watts) ability to recharge the batteries (100ah) quickly. I have used the IOTA a few times at home to run...

Nice job Rando. I did something similar in 2016, with LiFePO from batteryspace.com, not like your DIY version but did install with a BMS/Charger from Electrodacus. Been running since then and enjoying the easy daily recharge and loss of weight.

This is a topic of interest for me. I currently have the Dometic 80L, 2 way and seems to work well, except for the 5 amps it needs to keep it cool. Never heard of the National Luna and appears to be a good one. Those that have mounted theirs on a slider, can you suggest what you used for the...

Congratulations Riverrunner! I'll be watching out for your pictures and impressions. I currently own a 2013 F150 but been checking out the F250.
