RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Drive to the Flags in Malibu

Yes, as semi-locals, we drove by them. Emotional, but glad to see the victims recognized.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ARB Rapid Deflator

I always ask the other person for their extraction gear or any other tools necessary for the job we need to do. I do not want to be digging around for mine and have to wrap it up and put it back. If, for any reason I do not like their gear, then I will dig out mine.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for a 4wd dirt road campsite for a visitor

Thanks for the reply. We have about 5 days total before he moves on to New Mexico. I am quite familiar with Utah and Arizona and a bit of Nevada, not so much with car camping in the Sierras. I have back packed a bunch of the Sierras, but have paid little attention to dirt roads. This is why I am...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for a 4wd dirt road campsite for a visitor

My brother will be visiting from Switzerland and he wants to go into the Sierras for a camping trip. He wants a "good 4wd necessary dirt road going to some sort of water source, lake, stream etc". I have a good 4wd dirt road worthy truck so we have that part covered. Some suggestions and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Favorite Small Town Museum ?

Any small town museum along the Oregon Coast, Newport, Banding, etc. Between the rich history of logging, gold, and fishing there is a ton of really interesting items and information in each town. Small enough to really visit the displays, rich enough to make you linger and read each one.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Critique my checklist ...

You mention Wet Wipes. Unless you bring each and every one back with you and dispose of them properly, I would remove them from the list. In the wild, they will never decompose, they are made of plastic and will remain in the environment, buried or not, for decades.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping Tips if You Have a Pet?

Make sure you dog is allowed to go where you are going. Many parks, National Forests, Monuments, State Parks, etc have restrictions on pets. Best to look up where you are going and read the restrictions, if any. Death Valley is quite restrictive.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Thanks for the link, I will keep up to date using it. No worries about us tearing up the road, we drive responsibly. If the snow is starting around 6-7000', it will be that much worse higher. As well, getting in trouble at altitude makes recovery that much harder. Not a good position too be in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Corridor canyon sounds and looks awesome! Not this trip as one in our group (4) would not be up to the task. Next trip it will be a priority. I was wondering about a rope. Easy to take and I have all the accessories and skill to use them. Good insurance. Perdido canyon and adjoining areas have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Good information here, thanks! We plan on hiking Uhebebe Peak, have done it before and well worth a second visit. Since we will be driving down Hidden Valley Road, going to the White Mountain area instead of Homesteak may be a option, it it does not make for too long of a day. Lost Burro Mine is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Got it, thank you! I know the Homestake Camp is small and will fill easily. I also know Hunter Mtn Road and the Lost Burro Mine area. You were a big help, thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Going to Death Valley, a few questions

Planning a trip to DV, but having difficulty finding out certain information. We are planning on going to the Racetrack and hiking Ubehebe peak. My last visit I was able to camp in a small area past (South) of the Racetrack parking. I get the impression you are not able to camp at that location...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vic's new 2012 Puma build

We tend to stay away from established tourist areas, going for the more remote areas. If this fits your bill, here are a few. In Baja, a few places to consider, not in any particular order. San Pedro de Matir Park. Great camping in pretty high altitude, rare in Baja. If you are really gonzo...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Foam sleeping pads

The fabric is way too tight for me to add anything to the existing pad. Right now we use a thermarest pad on top, but the extra height adds a strain when I let the top down. I need to replace the pads with something of the same height. I read on this forum that somebody posted a surplus site for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Foam sleeping pads

I want to replace my sleeping pads in my 4 wheel pop up. The ones that we now use are too firm. We are looking for a regular 2.5" foam pad for replacement. Any good sources out there? I have looked at regular stores and they are quite expensive. Anybody know of a good Army Surplus Store? I have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2005 Dodge VERY heavy duty front springs, stock height

From my 05 Dodge, I removed these springs and added a Thuren system. You have the stock springs, when you order the "snow package", you get the next heavier set, the set I am selling is the NEXT level up from the "snowplow package". The previous owner installed the springs, they are way too...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2002-2008 dodge VERY heavy duty front springs

Stock height, no lift! Will fit either 4wd or 2wd. Off the lot you get the standard springs. If you were to order the "snowplow" kit, Dodge installs the next level of springs. The springs I am selling are the NEXT level above the snowplow package. If you have a really heavy camper, these would...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Eaton TruTrac in Front Diff FUll Size Truck

I have the true-trac in my 05 Dodge Cummins, AAM 9.25 front end. So far I like it. On sand it does not grab much so the truck does not steer from one side to another. The Dodge is not exactly a lightweight, but I have been surprised how well it goes up soft sandy hills. I have a 4 Wheel Camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hatchet?

There are any number of excellent axes and hatchets out there. I think it is a carpenters hatchet, long blade on one side, hammer on the other, made by Plumb. Hardened steel edge, holds a edge very well. Total length is 18", so handle is short enough to use with one hand, but long enough to use...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Has anyone had recent Baja travel?

"Baja Nomad" is a good site to get information. If you end up going, make sure you get insurance. As well, make sure the insurance will cover you on a dirt road. Since there is only one paved road, you coverage is very limited.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Installing and venting a Cubic Mini Wood Stove

Yes, I found the link, thanks to all who helped. Although the workmanship, design, execution, and details are stellar, too big for me. Anyway, I built a wooden cabinet for clothes in that location and on the other side too, his and hers. Question is: is a camper ever complete or finished, or is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upgrade Door replacement

EMMETT door rocks!! I had them make me a custom clamshell 2 doors, 50" across. The frame got damaged in shipping and they replaced it, no questions asked. Then ended up sending me a incorrect frame, bummer. Next they just made me a new set of doors with a frame, a complete replacement. No...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2005 push bar / board piano hinge broken - how to fix?

I had to redo mine, but I had a hassle with FWC. Glad to know that ATC is a backup. The spring loaded hinge is a propitiatory item for FWC and they would not sell it to me unless I bought the complete assembly.... for 450.00. No deal. I ended up removing the hinge since it was all bent up...
