RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scaling the heights into the Ram cab

Hello all, Well we broke in our new Hawk/Crew Cab Ram 2500 combo with our first semi long trip into Southern Utah last week. Bluff, Bullfrog, Boulder, Escalante and then down Cottonwood Creek to Page and then back to Durango. A good time was had by all and we've got lot's of little mods to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cold weather in the Hawk

Thanks everyone for the advice. Sounds like we'll be OK. Steve PS We may get the artic blanket option- I wanted to try the camper without it. Being in the Four Corners we can easily head south for winter trips even though it is amazing just how far you need to drive to get out of frosty...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cold weather in the Hawk

OK, we've "bought out" the last week of November to head to the San Rafael Swell, etc in Utah. My question is how well will my Hawk do with the nights forecast to be in the low 20's? I'm not worried about Sioux and me since we have a big honking double sleeping bag. And we have the Mr. Buddy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Decent camera for us non camera guys

I've been super happy with my Panasonic Lumix camera. Fits in a pocket, 16X zoom, image stabilization and most important- takes great point and shoot photos. Mr. Non-Technical

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West GM Satellite Antenna

Anyone have reception with SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio, newer GM W/Shark Fin antenna and a FWC? Just wondering if it will even work with the Camper on. Sorry to rain on your parade but probably not. We had perfect reception on our Ram 2500 till the Hawk went on and then extremely...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC Hawk

I am installing a 2300 watt inverter on the drivers side under the window to supply power for a microwave, toaster and other 110 volt items to keep power usage low. Larry, your Hawk is very similar to my new one. (I have the two batteries, etc.) I'd like to install an invertor and a small...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Transfer Trail from Dotsero to Glenwood Springs?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2012 Dodge 4WD 2500 w/ Hawk on the White Rim Trail?

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like it is a doable and reasonable thing. Unfortunately I just got the Michelin street tires with the truck instead of thinking to upgrade into off-road tires. I guess I can switch them and E-Bay/ Craig's List the almost new Michelins. Steve PS Now if we could...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2012 Dodge 4WD 2500 w/ Hawk on the White Rim Trail?

I posted this over on the Expo forum but I figure you can't have too much advice... Thanks to everyone's advice here my wife and I just picked up a Dodge 2500 4WD short bed crew cab and stuck a moderately tricked out Hawk on it. The truck is stock with street tires, a 3:73 axle and a limited...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wave-3 vs. Wave-6 in new Hawk

Thanks to both of you. I went to the other thread and digested it. Sounds like the Wave-3 will work out great for us. We'll just use it to take the chill off on those early mornings. Steve

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wave-3 vs. Wave-6 in new Hawk

OK, I'm all atwitter waiting for my new Hawk and Ram 2500 Crew Cab coming mid-May (many thanks to those who advised me) and am itching to "accessorize" it. We tricked the Hawk out pretty good- the big Waeco frig, hot water, outside shower, Fantastic Fan, auxiliary battery, etc. But we opted...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ultimate Solar Thread

Great (almost overwhelming) information. So let me stir the pot a bit more... I ordered a new Hawk yesterday from Chris in Denver. The solar question came up. Me being old school I am tempted to take the 1,000 bucks for the FWC solar installed option and put it toward a 2,000 watt Honda...

If you have a truck already, you can make it work. If you are going to get a truck for the camper, go with a 3/4 ton and think about the diesel option. It works for me... Definitely on the 3/4 ton but I'm swinging toward the Hemi since a)I don't tow, b)diesel prices and required maintenance...

IMHO, you will not use high gear with the camper in mountains unless your are going down them. OTOH, since the lower gears are 91% of the way to the 3.73 ratio, you can get to 100% with taller tires, if you so desire. Ground clearance is good if you're going off road. Good point. And I WOULD go...

Hey, let's get this thread back on topic- ME! (It's all about me you know!) :) Seriously folks, just wanna know if I'm headed in the right direction here. We drove a pretty barebones 2012 Dodge 2500 with the Hemi and really liked it. It has the limited-slip differential and the 4:10 rear...

Thanks, Mark. The challenge according to Chris up at FWC in Denver is they build the Hawk to suit the bed of the truck. For example, even the sidewalls of the F-150 and the F-250 vary by more than 2". Sigh, Steve

Welcome to the board, Steve. Where you from? Hi Mark, Being the imaginative sort I chose a user name from where I hail- the 4WD mecca of Durango, CO. We moved here in 1976 but spent the last 16 years living in the Dominican Republican along with a 3 year detour care-giving my in-laws in...

Hey folks, I am hoping for a last minute burst of counsel. After wending my way through all the different campers out there I kept getting led back to the FWC "Hawk". Not the fanciest and certainly not the cheapest but even people who have gone to other brands say FWC is bullet-proof. And to...
