RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West next after Upper Stableloads? Jittery ride on rough pavement

I think the Sumosprings have a little damping. Not like a shock absorber of course, but also not like steel springs. Anyway you need to weigh each axle before doing anything. On our much smaller setup, all extra weight is on the rear axle. If your weight is too far back, you might even be...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fuel Cans

There’s probably no good place to put fuel except in the original fuel tank. Well, I was just thinking about a trip where we might be far between gas stations.....

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fuel Cans

We only use one of the two propane cannisters, and put a 2 gal grey water bucket where the other one was. But I was thinking of putting fuel in there. Any thoughts on putting fuel in the propane compartment? Strap it in like the propane cannister.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mpg report

Our Taco/Fleet s really sensitive to wind or speed, but we average 18.6. Range is 15 to 22. I drive slowly though. Our Prius averages 51.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTB 4 corner camper jacks

For occasional use I made “jacks” using 4x4 posts and steel plate. A pain to use because I hav to jack up one side of truck, then install 2 or 3 posts, then jack the other side for 4th. It’s hard to center the camper for reinstall. But it works.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire help pls for Tacoma w FWC Fleet

If you get one of the lighter optioned Fleets, after running the numbers on ours I was ok with the stock Kevlar tires, P rated. However we lots of off road nasty stuff so bought KO2 E rated for durability. I was surprised that there was no gas mileage penalty, didn’t notice a noise problem or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Inexpensive under bed cushion air-flow ideas?

Thanks. I’ve never checked for moisture there. We don’t use the bed extension as we sleep “east-west”.

I’m completely happy with the very simple Sumosprings, about $200. They are like airbags without air. So simple and easy to install and forget.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Noob Question...Jacks

Today I bodged together some jacks, using 4x4 posts. The rear ones just bolt in. The fronts have steel plates bolted to camper and 4x4. Oh wait, the truck is also 4x4! Yuk yuk. Seriously though, I jacked up one side of the truck, bolted on the camper brackets that side, the repeated the other...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof & Remote Solar

We’ve been ok with just 90W portable solar and one AGM battery. We have a 2 way fridge, water pump, lights, heat, one fan that’s rarely used, two iPads and two phones. Of course, that’s in sunny weather. Cloudy weather we can’t keep up. I put the portable solar on the roof and lock it while...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How much truck camper is too much truck camper?

I would have appreciated a thoughtful answer to the overweight question when I was purchasing, so I will expound a bit. I used to design aircraft including a little bit on landing gear, which means I know enough to be dangerous, but no expert. We ordered our 4WC Fleet, then while waiting for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How much truck camper is too much truck camper?

I had the same concerns. We are backpackers and know how to go light. No dogs or bikes and our Tacoma is up to 600 lb above GVWR. Nearly all the weight is on the rear axle.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suggested options?

Your wattage fr solar depends upon n what you’ll use. For example, 90W is plenty for us. 300W is necessary fr others.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone else looking forward to the FWC Tesla Cybertruck edition?

I wonder how an E-truck with camper would work in Death Valley. Say you drive from civilization, maybe 100 miles from a charger, and arrive in DV. Then you wanna go up some cool back country road for 3-4 days. Solar ain't gonna cut it unless you bring 2000W of panels, although certainly it could...
