Nice rig - it's nice to have more truck than is required by the slide-in.

    Tapping into solar

I'm not the original poster of this thread and hope to provide a bit of insight why someone may wish to bring along a small power cube. My camper at the moment only has a single 79 Ah AGM and does not have any provisions for a 120 volt AC outlet. I'm not interested in installing an inverter...

Weighed my 2016 F-150 SuperCab XLT 6.5ft bed FX4 with Hawk

Even with the stated manufacturer's dry ship weight of 1550 lbs versus 1150 lbs on the rear tag - I had no idea that a FWC Hawk slide-in could be so heavy. My guess is a full build with all the bells and whistles adds up with regards to weight. How does the F150 handle in corners with the...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

Solar is going in next month, along with a new charge controller and a 100 Ah lithium battery. My current AGM, which is less than 100 Ah , is going to be 7 years old in September. It's time for an upgrade. Andrew, I'm guessing you don't have solar? Mine keeps my batteries at 100% pretty easily.

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

Definitely a good read - but when on the trail with a 12 volt fridge in use, it isn't always possible to top off an AGM battery back to a 100% state of charge. When on the road for short stretches, I find myself playing the game of only offsetting what was consumed by the fridge and other...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

If you need fast bulk charging of 2 AGM batteries from the truck alternator, I do recommend adding a DC to DC charge controller - which requires an upgrade from that skinny #10 gauge wire used by RV manufacturers. To me bulk charging gets an AGM to near 90%. This article below mentions three...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

To me, the only number that is critical with an AGM is when it has discharged to 12.2 volts - at which point I'm looking for a charging solution. The secret sauce to AGM longevity in my book is to have it on a proper aftermarket maintainer when not in use between trips. I am assuming that for...

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

By high volts, I mean the charge control unit has an output of 14.1 to 14.2 volts. The float cycle is usually about 13.1 / 13.2 volts with a low milli-amp output.

Charging AGM Batteries to 100% after depleting?

if you have a newer vehicle equipped with a smart alternator, I would hazard to say that without a DC to DC charge controller in the circuit the house batteries will never reach a 100% charge. Be aware that a DC to DC charge controller has the added benefit of providing a regulated output...

2005 Hawk Shore AC power works, No DC power

Where is the push pull disconnect for the house battery located on this Hawk? Can you gain access to the rear terminals to check its operation with a voltmeter? The reason I ask is that on my build I believe that I'd have remove the stove and the top of the stove cabinet to gain access to the...

    2014 fleet fuse issue

A random guess: Did someone add gas struts for raising the roof after the camper left the factory? They may have drilled through the porch light wiring which runs in a channel above the rear door. Trying to run new wires "within" the rear wall will be an impossible challenge without...

    **SOLD** 2014 ATC Bobcat (6 ft.)--Austin, TX

The seller kindly showed me this rare Bobcat build yesterday. All I can say is the previous owner did an impressive build with regards to the amount of kit that fits within driver's side counter space and the meticulous craftsmanship of the cabinetry. Neither All Terrain or FWC could build an...

    Tacoma wind struggles?

I miss my four cylinder 2015 Tacoma Access Cab with a 5 speed manual, but you are correct with regards to down shifting into 3rd to stay in the peak power band of the 2.7 liter when headed up steep inclines. I just upgraded to a 2005 Tundra SR5 access cab, with a 4.7 V8 that has gobs of torque...

Question about lithium batteries and storage

My preference would be to replace the stock Iota AC to DC converter which is for a lead acid with an updated converter/charger that has the correct profile for lithium. Also, there are other considerations such as the 10 AWG wiring FWC uses from the truck battery to the house battery and...

My 2009 Hawk needs some love: best battery?

Yep, LiFePO4 has slightly less than half the weight and provides nearly double the reserve when compared to an AGM of the same size - but the OP threw us a curve when he posted that he did not want to do any wiring or figure out how to mount a solar panel.

    Tacoma wind struggles?

A little late for the original poster - but I found the following video of a 3rd Gen Tacoma owner who claims at the end of the video the need to boogie down the road with the transmission set to 4th gear. Keep in mind that the Tacoma has 6 available gears.

My 2009 Hawk needs some love: best battery?

Welcome to the WtW - That 140 watt Zamp solar panel is way over priced. With regards to old school lead acid batteries, here is my best lead acid experience. I hope that it is not too much info. Before upgrading to lithium - I had a deep cycle AGM lead acid battery that lasted 6 years with...

    Tacoma wind struggles?

As a former Tacoma owner with a 5 speed mated to the 2.7 four, there were times when it was necessary to only use the first four gears or if need be, downshift to third gear - which meant slowing down to below 50 mph. My current truck is a first gen Tundra. The six speed auto transmission on...

Solvent for Polybutyl tape residue ?

Just be aware that naphtha is a lower grade petroleum distillate than automotive gasoline and it doesn't have any additives, such as detergents. Versus the 87 octane gasoline I use in my truck, the octane rating of naphtha tops out at about 70. Back to the original question - I've used WD-40...
