Very tidy job! Good on ya....no doubt it will help in high radiant heat.... Ps...just noticed, why the bungee cord? And what appears to be wooden molding along top sheet?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

I concur carrying fuel on-board that could turn you into a Teke torch is all about assumption of risk and then risk management looking for the LCD that could bite you on the butt….a common practice for me; assuming risk potential...

Seeing those fuel cans extending off the rear bumper reminds of a couple of Pinto accidents I investigated.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Interesting approach...I can see how that might push the top up and perhaps deformed areas of the top sheet...but my camper is permanently mounted on the Tundra so access to out side of the turnbuckle door is a non-starter..i could reverse both Fantastic fans with door closed and try that...

True that...I tried lifting with 16 lbs. prior to ordering the aluminum...but the wild card is that I am an old man who's muscles seem to have dissolved! Old age is not for the weak and weary !

Yes, hope so too..."proof of the pudding is in the eating"...where my attempt at a solution intersects reality is the question....not all winds and from all directions generated oil canning, but over time oil canning under a wider and wider variety of conditions became the norm. So...time will...

2016 Hawk These are the two 6 foot 3" wide and .313" thick bars positioned between longitudinal frame members. 6.5 lbs. each. They are not yet secured with VHB but only there to determine if they stop the top sheet from flexing and creating oil canning. For both sections between the...

Understood...but where did you see that the heaters used in FWCs are not certified for use in RVs?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

In researching the causes of oil canning, reduction of the areas of the unsupported flat surfaces reduces the chance of these areas generating waves/bubbles due to stressors such as temperature fluctuations and movement. Less area to flex, less waves and less oil canning. The distance between...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Exactly...at this point why is not the question...but how to remedy the problem....simply replacing a defective top sheet with another defective design/manufacturing identical to one that failed is not a solution but a "ground hog day" which will just again repeat the oil canning issue...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

True Vic...but design or material flaw and or manufacturing errors? How would the top sheet deform and produce the slack seen in the top sheet? Flopping up and down unattached to struts should not stretch the top sheet material if that material was of correct thickness and design. Even if VHB...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Casa, Yes indeed I bought the Hawk new in 2016....first off FWC does not believe this issue of oil canning in those FWCs with single top sheets is 'significant'. They do not believe enough owners are having this problem to warrant them addressing it. I understand them blindsiding this problem...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Jasan, Yup I understand the mechanics of what creates the noise ["oil canning"]....what I do not know is if the single sheet top sheet used by FWC has actually stretched due to aforementioned possible mechanical stressors; thus, creating the slack waves seen in my top sheet. Doubt slack was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Thanks Sage... I will try to figure it out and then PM you if I can't. All of the discussion on this thread begs the question: What caused the waves in the FWC single top sheet? Why does the top sheet seemingly stretch and develop these slack area waves? They were not there as delivered but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

I concur....patterned/ridged tops sheets but no screws and I doubt screwing the top sheet to the longitudinal frame members would do anything to stop the movement of the bubbled top sheet between those frame members...the few transverse frame members would not remove that slack top sheet either...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Perhaps a good alternative to longitudinal but this would not be possible under solar panel and not sure how to "bond" top sheet to angle iron...top sheet is very uneven and in "waves"...even pushing from below on the inside insulation you can not push out these waves so not sure how contact...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

Phil, if it were me, I would just screw them down. I know you don't want to make holes though. Curious, does the canning need more than one roughly 12" square (between frame members) section of the roof to happen? If so, then screwing them down would stop it, no...

Ok...would appreciate any input on "unintended consequences" for my approach to stopping the tin/oil canning in my '16 Hawk top sheet . I tried weighted bags [two folding camp chairs: 7.9 and 8.1 lbs.] on roof in front of my forward [FWC installed] 160 watt solar panel; did this by raising...

Craig, I course! I forgot about the oiling cans with the long narrow spout...I was imaging the oil cans used for vehicle motor oil....the abrupt sound those little cans made is what the top sheet produces but 1K time louder... Thanks..Phil
