RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Resealing Roof Seam - 2005 Hawk

Hi All, I've tried searching for this particular question but didn't find anything very helpful. The previous owner of my 2005 Hawk used what looks like is ExternaBond "tape" along the roof seam (that runs fore and aft, right down the middle of the camper). The tape is bubbling, cracking and...

Checking back in... Looking at rated amperage is not correct for actual power draw. That is way too high for a compressor fridge. Found this table below, which would make much more sense.... Still not very clear on what wattage it pulls when running. I would assume ~50W, or 4amp @ 12.5V...

I find it interesting that it would be pulling ~100W of power... Especially for a Dometic in 2020. My cheap compressor fridge (Edgestar) only pulls about 65W (~5amp @ 12.5V). 100W is about how a gas absorption type fridge would pull to power the heating element. That is unacceptable for a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding furnace (and fridge?) to 2003 hawk?

I just had to replace the sail switch on my furnace (Suburban DD-17DSI) so I got a pretty good look at how the thing works. I believe all you'll need to do is cut a hole (~3" diameter) on the side of the camper for the exhaust of the furnace. Then it is just a matter of getting a T fitting from...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West SOLD - 160W Flexible Renogy Solar Panel

SOLD 11/26/2020 Hi All, I bought this solar panel with the plan of mounting it to the top of my Four Wheel Camper, but decided to just keep my rigid panels propped separately off the truck while camping. I purchased this August 25th of this year. I used it for a 2 week off grid trip. It...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quieter Water Pump and Furnace Options?0

I will have to check, I didn't notice when I checked before. Mine is so loud, I can hear it from probably 50 yards away. Aside from flow rate, input/output hose size diameter, and basic dimensions externally, I would imagine there are several options I can choose for the water pump, correct? As...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quieter Water Pump and Furnace Options?0

Hi guys, I have a 2005 Hawk with a Suburban DD-17DSI furnace and a Sure-flow 12v water pump. Are there any other more quiet options out there that are relatively easy to swap out with? The furnace just wakes my wife and I up every time it kicks on through the night. The 12V water pump is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Strap paddleboard to camper roof with no rack?

I'd be more concerned with securing them to a flat surface more than anything else. You always want to have the board deck down, mainly due to the fact that your wax will melt and you won't look like a kook ;). But with SUP's you probably just have the traction stuff on the deck? I like the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Norcold 323 Propane Line Crack

Hi all, Just thought I'd share with you a failure I've found on my 2005 model 323T fridge. I just bought this FWC a few months ago and going through it slowly fixing things. On my last trip, I had been noticing a yellower than usual flame at the burner and the smell of unlit propane. I ended up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 3 way fridge on DC while driving

If flame is blowing out while driving and the cooling is not up to par on your fridge, it sounds like you may need to give the burner a cleaning (or replacement). You should also clean the flue while you're at it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Portable AC unit

Are you sure they aren't swamp coolers? Air conditioners require a lot of power. Even the small camper ones (8,000 btu) would still pull around 1,500 watt. To get proper cooling in a camper, you'll need a generator to power them.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vertical Support locations for Rotopax - 2005 Hawk

Hey guys, yes it's a cutting board, similar to the ones found on boats. Will be removing it and using a steel plate. Been continuing to research my question and haven't found much info. Sounds like guys who are mounting these don't use the frame locations. Or will use the old locations for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vertical Support locations for Rotopax - 2005 Hawk

Hi all, I purchased this 2005 Hawk and wanted to fix the Rotopax mount the previous owner did. You can see that the 4 bolt locations are skewed and if you pull down on the Rotopax mount itself, the entire stiffener (cutting board) deflects. I wanted to add 2 addional bolts up top, but wanted to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West proper sealant caulk for exterior screw replacement

On horizontal surfaces, you should use self leveling sealant either from Dicor or LaSalle Bristol . Not sure what FWC actually uses. I'd like to hear best option for vertical surfaces. I just replaced my non powered vent with a fantastic fan and used butyl tape and the LaSalle Bristol self...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace only ignites with very full battery

Well, I guess I was wrong... furnace is still not igniting even with 13V or when engine is running. It is really just hit or miss. It ignites and runs great about 25% of the time. Otherwise the fan just kicks on and I never hear the ignition to turn the burner on. Sail switch looks ok and it is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace only ignites with very full battery

Hi all, I am trying to figure out what might need to be checked or cleaned to fix my furnace "issue". As long as I have 12.5 to 12.7V on my house battery bank (I have 2 brand new group 31 deep cycles), the furnace blower will kick on and then ignite the burner. Great. Through the night as it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wiring my camper, questions on bypassing 3 prong connector?

Thanks guys for the replies. I am just going to chop off the current Marineco 3-prong plug (I just looked at it, and it says Marinco, not Attwood, oops), and replace with Anderson power pole connectors, which I've used a lot in the past already. Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wiring my camper, questions on bypassing 3 prong connector?

Well I went and just used my voltmeter to test the plug pins and see if it directly connected to the house battery. I did not get any volt reading, which makes me think there may be an isolator, or some other device inline between the plug and battery. I guess I'll just buy the receptacle...
