RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solo Traveling While Female

I understand this is likely to be an uncomfortable topic but I am always trying to find some positive or some kind of lesson out of negative experiences and by asking what others think perhaps I can broaden my viewpoint. Perhaps I am just trying to find some hope. I just spent two days...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do We Really Need Sun Protection?

I use sunscreen on my face when I am on snow or water because sunburn hurts. Everything else is covered by clothes if the exposure will be more than 1/2 hour. Usually. I sunburned the top of my feet last week sitting on a beach at 9,000 ft. I had on spf rated pants and top - and a hat - and...

Have you seen my favorite rock? It is not far from the juniper, most easily spotted when heading back towards the saddle and Corral Valley.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Carson Route of the California Trail - Late May 2020

Yes - I did mean Round Top Lake - I think Round Lake is in the Meiss Meadow area. And yup - did the ski tour from Carson Pass to Kirkwood (and scribbled on the slopes betwixt and between) more than a couple of times. I've found several of those signs around here - Fremont and his lost cannon...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Carson Route of the California Trail - Late May 2020

So is West Pass in the vicinity of Round Lake/ Sisters? But I question the "highest" route claim. Emigrant Pass (Emigrant Wilderness) was crossed by the Clark-Skidmore party in 1852 and I believe the elevation of that pass is at least 9600. I love the quotes on those signs; "We laid down...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I can Almost See My House!

Went camping in early May, about 25 minutes from home, maybe 10 miles on a steep dirt road. Took a long day hike. I would have gone backpacking but I wanted to sleep on the comfy bed in the camper. Whitecliff Peak on the horizon, Pippin the dog on the trail a contender for the largest...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Acoustic Thread - What are you listening to?

Great cover of For What Its Worth - I've been playing that song (and All Along The Watchtower) almost daily for just about the last four years. This song gave me a very pleasant earworm for a few days of backpacking (was going to say the song gave me chills but I did not wish to alarm anyone)

My solo AE weighs 36. I remember carrying a Hyside Paddilac - a 40 lb whitewater kayak - on some long portages - 15 years ago. I also walk a lot slower now.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fly over today

I saw that same thing while camped in the Glass Mountains in E. California several years ago. A few hours later I saw it again. I've asked many people and the consensus seems to be that I saw both Air Force One and Air Force Two. They usually fly outside the standard flight paths.

I got the seat that is IN the boat. I inflated the boat yesterday. I had no trouble hefting my Advanced Elements on my shoulder and walking a good distance but this one is a foot longer and 10 pounds heavier. And I am not getting younger. I ordered a kayak cart.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Acoustic Thread - What are you listening to?

This is the way musicians are making a living now days (my "stimulus" check is being given away). Both bread winners in this family are out of work until ........ And by working with the acoustic oriented venues they are trying to keep everyone afloat. Their young daughter joins them for a Cole...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Here we go SPRING,enjoy

As a member of a rather, ahh, interesting group of skiers known as Team Tie Dye I skied at least once a month for four years. One member was forced to abandon his streak just shy of 25 years when he broke both legs. September was usually the most difficult month to find someplace to link a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West When the Coronavirus Crisis Ends, What Do You Want to Do?

My life has taught me that planning on a future over which I have little control is not all that good for me. The interesting thing is that little has changed for me in the midst of this event. I would have been skiing (and sleeping in my camper :) ) the past couple of months and I would not be...

I lived 17 years in the San Jose area, only one significant earthquake (a 6.0, Earth Day 1984, I was in a building at SJSU) Who remembers the song; "better get ready to tie up the boats in Idaho"? and then there is this: (from a Wired article) The idea of California as an island existed in...

I have not noticed any damage here even though the house was making some dreadful sounds. My housemate said the first thing she thought of was the two cords of wood we just stacked a couple of days ago. It had partially fallen once already but it is intact this morning. The official "local" time...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Trash Problem

Garbage is one of the most frustrating things to me. I wonder if the trash tossers have any intention of returning to that location. I also wonder what their homes look like. A friend of mine has ATVs and we have gone camping in a dispersed camping area frequented by dirt bikers, ATVers...
