First Trip with ATC Panther Courtesy of Jay's Camper Sales

Improvements made: padded door to save my head Congrats on the new camper. Could you please take a pic of the padding over the door. A buddy of mine nearly knocked himself out by hitting the door frame and received a bad cut. I've been thinking of some way to pad that area and not have it...

    Recieved my solar panel today

Pics? Mine doesn't get here till tuesday. Sorry pods8, I don't have a picture of the FWC mount. It is simply a piece of sheet metal the full length of the panel (front and back) shaped like a "Z" with screws mounting it to each available roof stut. I guess one advantage of this over just...

    Recieved my solar panel today

wondering what you think of those? Those mounts would work great if you were mounting the panel to the top of a standard plywood roof because you could drill them and put the screws where ever you wanted. It's a bit different though mounting the solar panel to your FWC roofs. The only place...

    Ordered my new Raven today

What were your thoughts on switching to the fluorescent lights? I'm still debating that one. I have the stock flourescent lights from FWC. I was all set to switch to LED's but after comparing how the LED's looked to my stock set up....I decided to leave well enough alone. I like a brightly...

    F150 FX4 EcoBoost

buy a half-ton with the correct gearing and you can actually enjoy driving your truck. I enjoy driving my 3/4 ton WAY more than driving my 1/2 ton.....even around town.

    Ordered my new Raven today

The Raven is 10" shorter than the hawk so I think the dinette would be way too cramped. I do agree with the window factor though. Now is the time to sort these things out. Talk to Chicalli or Terry at FWC....they are extremely knowledgeable about these types of modifications. Since the...

    Ordered my new Raven today

I wonder if it will fit in the Raven which is 10" shorter than the hawk When I ordered my Hawk from FWC.....I included the Air Conditioning Option along with the standard roll-over couch. I wanted a little more room in that corner so FWC shortened the couch to comply. If you give them a...

A better chair: The Strongback Chair

Just received my Stongback chair today.....you were right on DD.....it's by far the most comfortable camp chair I have ever sat in. Seems real sturdy too. Thanks for the heads up. Now I have to order a couple more.

    Ordered my new Raven today

That's the same porta potti I use. I really like it because of the extra capacity! The holding tank is 5 gallons vs the 2 gallon capaicty of the standard porta potti. The 465 model is 3 or 4 inches taller too....which helps a bunch with comfort. It just fits in the corner like it was custom...

    Ordered my new Raven today

I included the stereo in my option list and I use it all the time. If you want to save some space.....just plug an mp3 player in as an auxiliary input. My mp3 player has around 150 cd's loaded into it. No need to haul them all over the place. And like others have suggested add the roof...

    Ordered my new Raven today

When I purchased my Hawk I too ordered the opening front window and the window boot. The boot ended up wearing all of the paint off of the back window area of my Tundra....with all of the undulations and the dirt in there as abrasive....not a good idea at all. When I had the Hawk installed on...

    Low Cost Mods

One of the reasons I got the Edge CTS is to monitor the behavior of my auto tranny. With the CTS you can see what actual gear you are in and whether the torque converter is locked or not, the transmission oil temperature etc. With this information you can monitor the behavior of your tranny in...

    Low Cost Mods

That is what I was thinking. If I had a diesel in which there are a lot more parameters to check out and monitor I could appreciate the edge but with a gas engine I'm just not seeing it. I mainly w to watch trans temps and instantaneous MPG off the top of my head. Leadsled9 how about a little...

1/2 ton Tundra with big camper

I think that 1/2 ton is seriously overloaded. I can't imagine how long it would take to stop that rig during a panic stop. I had a personal experience where switching to a 3/4 ton truck with better brakes saved a mans life. Just because it CAN be done doesn't mean it SHOULD be done.

    Dec camping trip?

Is this the north rim or the south rim? Is the north rim open in Dec? The South Rim is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All visitor services: camping, lodging, and restaurants are available year round. Reservations are strongly recommended during the busy summer season. Some facilities...

    F150 FX4 EcoBoost

I went from a 1/2 ton platform to a 3/4 ton platform. I would NEVER go back down to a 1/2 ton platform....just speaking from the safety perspective.

    Charge up

Any idea where I might be losing a volt in the AC system? First place I'd check would be the connections to the camper battery. Are they clean? Is the battery in good condition? I don't think it is a wire size problem because your old truck used to charge the camper ok.

    Charge up

I think there is a problem with your 120 volt system. When I plug into 120 volt socket at home....there is plenty of voltage (14.5 v) to charge my two group 31 Diehard AGM batteries. The output of your trucks alternator needs to be checked too. It should be putting out 14+ volts while at...

    Dec camping trip?

Grand Canyon is 11 hours and 48 minutes from the bay area. I'm going to be in Arizona for a month (January) and will make sure to visit the Grand Canyon on the way home. I've never been there in the winter....it should be spectacular.

    Propane alarm keeps going off

Sometimes when we have issues with a system it turns out to be the last time we messed with it. I seem to remember you going to a dc fridge. Well, you had to cap off the propane feed to the old fridge so I'd start there. I was also going to suggest having a professional check out your...

    Manual vs automatic transmission?

Even my old 99 7.3 with the auto I lock it out of overdrive on the really big grades but it rarely needs that. I added the trans temp and cooler which avoids any problems. Manual trans are great, on motorcycles :D You should also be monitoring your exhaust gas temperature on your diesel...
