    Dumb question re gas fridge

The theroy of operation is the same on both of them just your new one is safer to operate while traveling it most likely has some kind of pilot safety on it where your old one may not. So it is more of a safety thing then a ruining it thing.

    Rebuilding.....

I pulled the propne fridge out and put in an ice box, the thought of the combustion gasses just going into the camper didn't sit well with me. As for the heater I put a wave 3 heater in.

    Camper jacks

Those brackets would not work on an Alaskan as they would mount on the corners of the upper section, That when jacked would put all the lifting force on the upper section causing the upper and lower section to seperate. You need to lift the alaskan from under the undersection.

I bought 1972 Alaskan Truck Camper 10' non-cabover - Working on restoring it

For the heater Iput in a wave 3 that I hang on the cabinet under the ice box when needed and then store in the cabinet when not in use. For the propane mine came with a 15 lb. (I think) horizontal tank that fits real nicely between the truck bed and camper. My wiring was a mess also some...
