    Fall Fish'n

I would also like to add that I was reluctant to use my 1500 for this camping/towing rig. It has been well over a year now and I have dragged the tinny from high sierra lakes to the rivers and oceans of Oregon and everywhere in between. She excelerates well, stops well (tested on a couple panic...

Hahaha! I mentally fabricated the very jack bracket mount I'm gonna make that night. Great idea!

    Fall Fish'n

Gotta love this time of year on the lake. Next to no one on the water, and plenty of 20"+ rainbows. I found an awesome, stainless, marine kettle grill that someone left next to the dumpsters in perfect condition! It is coal fired and not really practical while underway but makes for a great BBQ...

I'm a fan of the non attached options. I also need to use my step for latching and unlatching the camper. I can use my step to climb into my boat while it is on the trailer as well. The folding Rubbermaid two step is working great for me. The large footprint makes it very stable even in soft...

    Adding a Second Battery

If the camper is new it should be prewired for solar. Consider adding some solar to the mix. Even a portable panel off the back will help. That panel could also keep your battery topped off while your camper sits in between trips. Letting AGM batteries get below 50% SOC is no bueno. I also agree...

Has anyone shipped a FWC across the country? best companies?

+1 for USHIP I've had some oversized boats successfully delivered from far away places. Check for insurance, read reviews and have a phone conversation with the driver. So far so good.

    No Salmon Season?!?

I feel the formation of pellicle is a crucial step in smoking fish. It helps with the texture, moisture retention and smoke absorption. Adding some seasoning before it's formation also seals those flavors tight against the meat. Give it a go!

    No Salmon Season?!?

My favorite! I made my go to sweet/pepper batch. -Equal parts brown sugar and Kosher salt for a 2-3 hour dry brine. -Quick cold water rinse -Light dusting of garlic powder and cracked pepper -Air dry on rack with fan 2 hours for the Pellical layer -Low smoked at 160-180F -Baste with maple...

    No Salmon Season?!?

The salmon have been swarming the Santa Cruz harbor. As I sit on my boat in the slip, the sea lions are chasing and catching them right in front of me. No season closure for them. Had to head up to the lake this weekend and at least find some trout. Productive weekend with some lunkers. Not as...

    DC/DC Charger Location

I see that and did the same thing on my charge controller. I think it helps. I will also add some vents in the cabinet near the front passenger turnbuckle door. I have vents in my TB doors and will open them while driving if she heats up. Should be sufficient flow and cross ventilation. Great...

New thermal pack: quilted with lower window covers

I have that very carpet from the factory. Sure makes it nice and cozy on the feet. Removing and shaking it out makes cleaning easy. I clean mine every few months with a cheap rug doctor steamer and it looks brand new. I also spoke with Brenda today and ordered the quilted window coverings. Not...

    DC/DC Charger Location

Thank you. I'm going to go with the same location as you posted. Unless anyone else has any better locations to suggest.

Thank you for that information. I think that location would be too wet as well.

    DC/DC Charger Location

Good information all. It was my understanding that in bulk charge they get really hot. Things are pretty crowded in my battery cave with the new 200ah lithium hogging up space. It is good to know they have an overheat shut off. I will look back at the recommended minimum clearance and see if I...

    DC/DC Charger Location

I have been hanging on to a Victron 30amp DC/DC chargers for a year now. After some close calls with only solar last winter and limited sun, I'm finally gonna install the little rascal. I'm worried about it getting too hot if I put it in the existing battery cabinet (Hawk side dinette). Would it...

I have had great success with rivets on my camper (2 awnings, bike fork mounts, trash can mount, solar panel). I even replaced some of the stripped self tappers at the screen door hinge with rivets. On exterior applications, I like to use some 5200 no matter what hardware is used.

    Thermal Pack

I'm having some service work done on my 2022 Hawk this week. I'm thinking of upgrading to the new quilted thermal pack. Just putting out feelers to see if anyone would like to purchase my original one. It is in excellent condition and has served me well. I'm doing a lot of winter camping and I...

    Should I Replace the Battery?

You can take your battery down to the auto parts store and they can test it for you. 9 years sounds about right to show signs of deterioration. Never letting it go below 50% is a must for longevity. I agree with your ain't broke don't fix it motto. If it is meeting your needs then I say stick...

    12 Volt Oven

Yes, it does take some time for the larger meals. My main reason for getting it is for cooking while in route to our destination. We usually drive around 4-8 hours at a time. I'm tired of grabbing fast food at the end of a long travel day or needing to cook once we get there. With this I can put...

    12 Volt Oven

Second successful meal from the "Betty Crocker easy bake" oven. Steak and taters It took 3.5 hours from start to finish (1 hour of that preheat) , but it worked and was yummy. Ribeye cooked faster than the potatoes. Next time I would cut the tats into smaller pieces or perhaps add the steak...

    12 Volt Oven

12v oven arrived and I have been testing it in the driveway. It has two racks and a large stainless baking tray with a trivet. I ran it for 2 hours on high to burn off any residue. -Next I did some tests on its performance and draw. -On high it draws between 8-10 amps and 123w-128w -With my...
