RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Go Treads

I have yet to get stuck in my new rig and really wanting to try out the Go Treads. Alas! My neighbor came over just now and was stuck in his driveway with his VW GTI. He asked if I would pull him out with my K5. He had tried sticking everything but the kitchen sink under his wheels to get out. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Rack Cross Bar Ideas

I used some 1" aluminum square tube and attached to my yakima tracks. I put a 1" standoff in there to create space for rack pads and eliminate the possibility of racks hitting the roof with a heavier load. All held together with aluminum rivets. I have had three surfboards up there and also a...

Snow for y'all and down right saturated here. Rain stopped for a minute so we decided to take a quick walk. The creek below our house decided to merge with the street so we ended up going for a paddle instead.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It is New Year's Eve 2022!

If I make it till midnight so be it. If I fall asleep, then no worries either. Days of waking up late and hungover are behind me. Much nicer spending the first day of a new year refreshed and full of vigor. Hope it is a great new year for you all. I appreciate you and all the wisdom you share. Sean

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Overloaded

I actually saw this guy parked down at the Santa Cruz harbor campground right before Christmas. That camper is HUGE!!!!! I was very surprised when I saw it sitting on the 3500. When they had the slide outs extended the thing was holding its own next to the big 5th wheels. Crazy.

All the weight hanging off behind the rear axle??? Who wouldn’t say oh what the heck, let’s stick a motorcycle back there as well!?!!!!!! Yikes! I think Mopar will win this one. Next time 5500.

Indeed, I suppose it is. I just like the narrowed and condensed group of people here. Other forms of the major SM groups tend to exploit areas, and fill them with the masses. In my experience, these masses come for a quick "I did it" photo then leave all of their garbage behind as proof of their...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another rotopax mount

Yes, thank you for sharing this. I have these mounts and use them mostly for the white water pax. So far so good. Have used for gas only once with no elevation change and all went well. I know now to not trust them on a a long haul holding fuel. They also rattle a lot on rough roads. I put a bit...

If I had a 3500 and could do it all over again, I would get the flatbed conversion and go that route.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Storage ideas for FWC

I use the space between camper and cab for a few things. I started with these rotopax storage containers on each side. They hold drinking water or I can slip in extra fuel tanks. https://atoverland.com/collections/fuel-propane/products/at-overland-rotopax-holder I'm able to slide in my shower...

Very cool ! Living there would be a dream. I feel we scored a rare little calm between storms. Love that zone. I have not been through there for over 30 years. Man Bishop sure has grown!

We stopped at Red Rock for a hike on the way up. On the way home we pulled in for a sunset hike and spent the night. Great campground. Well maintained and beautiful scenery! The next day we only had a 4.5 hour drive home from there. We will be heading back through there for sure. Weather...

When I visit the website for Mt Whitney Fish Hatchery, they list the open dates from April 1st through mid December (weather pending). It also says that they no longer hatch fish there, but use the space as an education center for the local fishery. That said last Saturday we were able to enjoy...

1/4" is the diameter of the rivet sleeve and the size of the hole you drill. Head size is 1/2" I also used 5200 in the holes and behind the mounts. Heck that stuff can almost hold the mount on by itself. I also used rivets to attach my shower enclosure and my awning. So far so good, and no...

I was using a swing out set up. It was very heavy, awkward to take on and off and I had to swing it every time I needed to get into camper. The hitch mount also decreased my departure angle and would rub at times. Some people love the hitch mount and it works well for them. (I did just see a...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SVMF76C?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I mounted these fork mounts in the dark the night before we left for our latest desert trip. I used 1/4" rivets and got a good bite into the large upper channel of the camper. They seem solid, but I also had a...

Even found a beautiful fish hatchery that was reminiscent of somewhere in Europe. It was closed but the gate was open as a fellow was doing some grounds maintenance. He just waved and said hello as we made lunch and sat by the pond. No one else there except the ducks. They had some stiff...

I run Bilstein on my SIlverado/hawk combo. It has been a luxurious upgrade from stock. I also just swapped out my Rancho 9000s for Bilsteins on my K5 play toy truck. WOW! the ride has drastically been improved. All things considered, shocks are an inexpensive upgrade for improving ride quality.
