When I visit the website for Mt Whitney Fish Hatchery, they list the open dates from April 1st through mid December (weather pending). It also says that they no longer hatch fish there, but use the space as an education center for the local fishery. That said last Saturday we were able to enjoy our lunch at a picnic table next to the pond (even though they were "closed"). Pond was loaded with LARGE trout (no fishing allowed of course). They have a fish pellet dispenser that gives you a handful for a quarter. beautiful building and location!craig333 said:I need to visit that fish hatchery.
We stopped at Red Rock for a hike on the way up. On the way home we pulled in for a sunset hike and spent the night. Great campground. Well maintained and beautiful scenery! The next day we only had a 4.5 hour drive home from there. We will be heading back through there for sure. Weather cooperating, this may be our go to holiday get away.Casa Escarlata Robles Too said:Capt did you camp at Red Rocks?
Your one photo looks like that area.

Very cool ! Living there would be a dream. I feel we scored a rare little calm between storms. Love that zone. I have not been through there for over 30 years. Man Bishop sure has grown!ski3pin said:Glad you had a great time! Different weather here in Owens Valley now. It's raining hard in Bishop with chain controls all the way home from north of 203. We'll drive home tomorrow. The Mt. Whitney Hatchery is grand and a step back in time. A friend grew up living there when she was a young girl.
Pretty sure that you're in our favorite campsite at Red Rock Canyon.Cpt Davenport said:We stopped at Red Rock for a hike on the way up.
