RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Sad Moment on Highway 395

Interesting story. I did not know about this tree even though I’ve been to Big Pine so many times over the past 50 years or more. Family and relatives always camped at Taboose Creek.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire help pls for Tacoma w FWC Fleet

Looks like a 10 ply would be Load Range E (see Tire Rack chart attached). If you end up with a shell Fleet maybe you need less tire. However your tire load rating should exceed your axle rating (rear) by a suitable safety margin. Hopefully your ultimate rig is under that too.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Quieter Water Pump and Furnace Options?0

For pump noise, strategically placed foam padding may help. There are also silencing kits for some pump models. I had a Suburban furnace in my earlier 2005 Hawk and I cannot say for certain if the Suburban furnace in my 2015 Hawk is any quieter. I don't miss the 2005 furnace as frequently it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tricks for cable jacks?

On my 2005 Hawk I used three cable Jacks; two on the heavy side on one on the light side. One leg pad was already slightly crushed when i got the setup so i made sure to always position it ahead of the tire and it did get run over each time. It was always sketchy. My current Hawk has corner...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot water heater - necessary or luxury?

My first Hawk did not have water heater and i simply heated water on the cooktop. Used a large pot of warm water for showers a couple of times. My 2016 Hawk has the water heater and I'm glad to have it along with the additional 6 gallon tank. Your profile picture looks like a camper going...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wow, a hidden tax in Colorado

What kind of activities were you doing on these lands? I frequent both State and Federal Wildlife areas in California. They may have some differences in their regulations as well as their land management goals. All seem to require a day pass to enter for any reason. At least a few have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What to do with the snow on the roof

My plan is to use a telescoping ladder to allow me to stand up above the roof and then use a short broom or brush to clear snow. I've not used it yet because I usually drive the SUV up to the mountains to go skiing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What should I look at?

if I did not want a 2-speed transfer case and higher ground clearance I would be seriously looking at a sprinter van myself. A van with simple modular build.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What should I look at?

Good question. I sold my 2005 F150 to buy a 2008 F250 for the extra payload and all the associated upgrades (eg brakes, full float axle,). Based on the scales, my Hawk weighs 1600 lbs without jacks, water, food, or any camping activity gear. So I’m looking at carrying 2000 lbs on a typical...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Southern Cascade Range (California)

All, Appreciate the good feedback. I'll probably wait until the smoke settles and will also check first with Cal Fire and other resources. For the near term trip my plan B is a coastal trip, saving the Lassen areas until late summer or fall. -Smoke- Stay safe with the nearby Hog Fire.

I don't know if the State Park is open for camping; however we plan to disperse camp anyway on nearby forest service lands to avoid too much close contact. Should be plenty of options I hope.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sofa waterproofing

My observation of the fabric in my 2016 Hawk is that it is too loose of a weave to retard water. I might consider and custom made waterproof fabric cover over the foam which is fitted under the factory fabric. It might be a tight fit though.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vertical Support locations for Rotopax - 2005 Hawk

I used the rotopax mount where one of the rear wall steps was. I had to modify the rotopax mounting plate in order to use the same hole spacing as the step that i removed. I still have 3-wall steps on the back and i use them all the time. With my refrigerator partly pushed out i was able to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Latch Indicator

Lots of projects while there is the shelter-in-place. Some are important and some are not; this is probably not too important. I will often go around the camper as I open each latch and count the six latches. I also try to walk around again a second time to ensure that the actual latch fell...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Looking for more storage

Not so much more useable storage but a good secret hiding spot. In the front corner (roll over couch floorplan) I cut off the screws and replaced them with magnet and pin latching.
