    Recomend a cheap charge controller.

I've been happy with my WindyNation 30A controller. It can accept up to four 100W panels (I connect one or two depending on conditions - one roof mount & one "deployable"). Has a nice display with programmable parameters. Sells for $52 on Amazon these days...

WTW Eclipse Meet Up in WY & the rest of my week's trip

Love the Telluride area. You can check the list of locations/places in the right hand column of any blog post for information on the area, or go to my map page to learn which posts cover any specific area: https://bosquebill.blogspot.com/p/map-of-locations.html

WTW Eclipse Meet Up in WY & the rest of my week's trip

I had intended to go check out the petroglyphs after the eclipse, but there were just way too many people and vehicles. If you search on the web some folks have posted photos of the rock art there.

WTW Eclipse Meet Up in WY & the rest of my week's trip

Yes, you're right. I've corrected my post. I also corrected the distance the picnic/camping area at North Fork was from the highway; I'd said 3 miles, but it was only about half a mile. Thanks

WTW Eclipse Meet Up in WY & the rest of my week's trip

We threw together a fun, un-official WTW meet-up at the last minute in central Wyoming for the eclipse. There were 12 of us in 8 vehicles, 7 of those were pop-up campers, and 10 of us WTW members This 3-part report includes details of the eclipse, the meet-up, and my journey the rest of the...

Keeping out the foot / shoe dirt....

I use a large door mat outside - the kind with a "rubber" backing and carpet like top. If it's wet and/or muddy I keep an old towel on the floor just inside the door - this allows me to step inside and remove my shoes/boots. Later I can shake out or wash the towel.

Campers in The Big Sky Area

I didn't exactly make it to Big Sky this last trip, but I circumnavigated the area. I visited WY, MT, & ID the eclipse week and did see lots of pop-up campers, more than on any other trip. That doesn't count the 7 pop-up rigs of the informal WTW meet-up in central WY for the event itself. Watch...

Solar eclipse in 2017, mid-morning August 21, plan for it now

I created a solar lens by cutting up one pair of ISO eclipse glasses (minimum order was 5; sorry if some of you have zero pairs). I found a plastic can/tub that fits snugly over my long lens (300mm + 1.4x), cut a hole the size of the glasses' "lens", and mounted the film to the can with black...

Solar eclipse in 2017, mid-morning August 21, plan for it now

I received my certified eclipse viewing glasses this morning from Amazon via UPS overnight air. Hooray! They sure had a time of it, didn't they? First they had to recall who knows how many pairs for non-compliance, then they panicked and refunded $150 to all customers who'd purchased those...

Solar eclipse in 2017, mid-morning August 21, plan for it now

I read that as well. I have taped together a #10 and #4 glass... in series, if you will. I don't have a helmet so will hold the sandwich in front of my eyes by hand. I also got a text from Amazon stating my eclipse glasses will be delivered tomorrow via overnight air. If so then the welding...

Solar eclipse in 2017, mid-morning August 21, plan for it now

NOTE: I just read a tech news report that Amazon is recalling ineffective and dangerous solar glasses that they have sold. They are sending emails to folks who purchased those glasses. https://thenextweb.com/insider/2017/08/14/amazon-recalls-ineffective-dangerous-solar-eclipse-glasses/ Not much...

Solar eclipse in 2017, mid-morning August 21, plan for it now

OK, folks. I've known about this event for a long time, but didn't get my act together in time for reservations etc. Over the last week or two I've gathered my resources - previously acquired maps and a newly acquired Benchmark Atlas for Wyoming and Idaho. Also the excellent...

White Rim Trail - Canyonlands NP - April 2017

You should already have your permits. This is prime time and they are typically reserved months in advance. You can apply via the NPS website. Occasionally, there are cancellations; check at the Island in the Sky visitor center. is your F-150 4WD? I would not attempt it without 4x4 LOW gearing...
