RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Laptop Versus Desktop

I use a Mac mini (mid-2011) with two large NEC Multisync monitors. The mini drives them just fine, though I needed adapters for the HDMI and Display Port connections. I upgraded to 16GB RAM. It only has a 500GB HD, which has been OK as I move long term files to an external USB drive. I am...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge fan photos

Thanks again to DesertDave for starting this topic and Sledawg for info applicable to my 2013 Fleet. You guys got me started. I unscrewed and pried off the louvered vent cover and then removed the sheet of aluminum that was blocking the vent. The coils were right there and low & behold, there...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge fan photos

Harrumph! When I complained to FWC about the compressor fridge in my, then new, 2013 Fleet running so much they insisted that everything is just fine and it doesn't need any outside venting or an auxiliary fan. A few questions for those who have done the mod. 1. Any problems with water...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

I haven't tried this new feature yet, but think it is a great addition. There have been a number of times I had weather concerns, but could not pick up any WX weather radio station. You can turn on the Premium forecast in settings (I've seen the setting in their Earthmate app. I assume there is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring Shakedown 2016: New Mexico and Arizona

It's not a secret, just not well known. This was the first time I tried it, based upon this article: http://www.dpreview.com/techniques/4455063977/how-to-effectively-use-orton-layers-in-post-processing I think with some practice and learning which photos it will work best with will bring rewards.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

Out of warranty repair There was one set-back during preparation for my last trip. I use the Satellite Communicator to stay in touch when off the grid, or for emergencies. Since I don't text a lot with it, and then only during camping season, I subscribe to the Freedom plan I can put on hold in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring Shakedown 2016: New Mexico and Arizona

There is a new adventure posted on Bosque Bill's Backroads travel & camping blog. I broke this week long trip into 3 parts. I took the trip at the end of April through the first week in May, but have been slow to pull all the photos and narrative together. I also only posted a small selection...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New: a Map showing Locations as referenced in my Travel Blog

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. FYI, I've added a new style marker to the map for photo galleries I have on Google Photos. These photos are either not included in my blog posts or are an expanded set of photos, in some cases. When you send a message using the inReach it records the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you use to store your camper on?

I just have an inexpensive Hitachi cordless I got on sale from Lowe's and it works just fine for jacks, suspect it would not work on tire lugs, if that's what you are asking - you'd probably need a pneumatic impact style for that.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New: a Map showing Locations as referenced in my Travel Blog

I’ve been told by several people how helpful my blog has been to help them plan their own adventures. Most of those found specific entries via web search, I believe. However, there has not been a convenient way for folks who know about my blog to find which entries might be of interest for their...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you use to store your camper on?

You can get an adapter for a drill motor to use instead of the crank, if your's is like mine. It doesn't take long to lower the camper to the platform using the cordless drill motor, though you do have to walk around from corner to corner many times. Still, it is only at the end and beginning of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What do you use to store your camper on?

870 lb capacity? My small Fleet camper weighs 1320 dry. Sure, you are not driving down the highway with it on your trailer, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing that. And I use the area under the overhang to park my bicycle (and my garage is pretty short.) I also use the platform as a short work...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping in NP campgrounds...

I camped at Bryce with my truck camper a couple of years ago in the tent area, no problem. I got a very nice spot. There was another truck camper and a van, too. If you want to make double sure, ask the campground host (not the rangers) when you drive into the campground. Be aware that all the...

Yeah, well, what's 1800 feet between friends? Here is a long, but interesting article: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/INFO/fourcorners.shtml Titled: "Why the Four Corners Monument is in Exactly the Right Place" tl;dr: "A basic tenet of boundary surveying is that once a monument has been established...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Insurance questions

My camper is completely covered by my "auto" policy, though I did need to tell them about it and showed my agent the receipt to have the value recorded. My agent did have to look it up, as pickup campers are not commonly encountered by this office. There was no additional fee. I'm in New Mexico.

Sorry, no experience myself, but you might want to look also at Overland Solar. Jonathan Hanson has featured them in his overland newsletter. You can buy them to connect directly to your battery bank or get the optional inverter. This link is for the 150w, but they also have a 90w version...

I guess you could say I've made my own "bed-roll". I started with an old felt blanket stretched out on my living room floor; I placed a flat sheet on top and used small safety pins to attach the head of the sheet to the blanket; I placed a second sheet over that and with larger safety pins...
