I have only driven down below El Vado dam once and did see people fishing along there, just not above the reservoir.

I don't know. Looks like there should be fish. I've been there twice and not seen anyone fishing - though that's not definitive. The river carries a fair amount of sediment - in August it was muddy looking; in October it was more a milky blue-gray - FWIW.

Frank, Vic, and searching; thanks for taking the time to comment. I've a couple other short trips to write up as I get the time.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rio Chama Wild & Scenic River, NM - October 2018

Friends, What with one thing and another, I wasn’t able to get out camping this summer. I did manage a few short trips this fall, but hadn’t had the time to process the images and write them up, as of yet. I have now published the first of these - a very short trip up to northern New Mexico to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone using an inReach 2-way Satellite Communicator?

Wow! Thanks for the story. If his metal lunch pail had survived, he could have put it in there - an all metal box would act as a Faraday cage and block any RF signals. Garmin tech support is about the best I've encountered of all the tech companies I've had to deal with over the years. I hope...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TC Insurance questions, my current provider, USAA, is not doing a good job

Allstate in New Mexico doesn't seem to have any problem knowing what a truck camper is and it is covered by my truck policy without additional fee. I brought the cost of my FWC to my agent's attention and she wasn't concerned. Of course, I've not had to make a claim either, so some might say the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof corner drip edge

The gutter is designed to bend in only one direction, so mounting on the vertical surface it bent around the radius of the roof well. If you mount it flat on the roof, as I think you're saying, then it won't bend around the corner, but if you plan on running a strip straight front to back, it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof corner drip edge

I tried these RV gutters and was very disappointed: http://rvgutters.com/ezervgutters.aspx The amount of water that pours off the camper roof, even after a modest rain, when I get in or out is more than the gutter can handle. I did install them as they are intended along the edge of the roof...

I saw that - so cool. Lots of creative features on that "bus." Too bad it's not available in the US. Brought back good memories of my VW Campmobile™ days!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Q: Dolores River Canyon, CO

Vic, I think you're looking at the right road and right area. I turned around at about Lat 37.872813 Lon -108.819966 which is about 6.5 miles from where the road first reaches the canyon bottom. Doesn't seem all that far, but I calculate my average speed was 2.5 MPH on that road. I could have...

Hey, I went to Dolores Canyon on my May 2018 trip. TL/DR: It was amazing! Fabulous scenery and plenty of privacy. The road is a bit rough, but I loved it and stayed two nights. If you want to discover what I learned, read this blog post...

Hey, I checked out Montezuma Canyon on my May 2018 trip. Not the most exciting or scenic canyon in SE Utah, but with a few items of interest. If you want to discover what I learned check out this blog post: https://bosquebill.blogspot.com/2018/06/ruins-landscapes-ut-co-part-2-may-2018.html

I took a terrific trip in May - joined by my friend Dan, who has an ATC popup camper, for a few days. We toured and camped in/at: Cedar Mesa, Bears Ears, Elk Ridge, Beef Basin, Montezuma Canyon, and Hovenweep National Monument in UT Canyons of the Ancients, and Dolores Canyon in Colorado...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Staying Cool Without an Air Conditioner

Just remember if you you this in a confined space, such as in your camper, as the unit runs the humidity in the camper will rise and the efficiency of the cooler will go down until you no longer have a cooler just a humidifier with a fan.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Evolution of Tent to Truck Camping

PR, thanks for the history. Our family had one of those heavy, canvas umbrella tents, too. Touch the canvas in the rain and it leaked - good times. After college I got a used 1968 VW Campmobile with the "pop-top." Severely underpowered (especially since all the cabinetry was built with 3/4"...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dead Truck Batteries...... Bad Separator?

If your battery separator works the same as the ones FWC uses, and I bet the function is the same, the amount of current it would draw from the truck is extremely small - no where near enough to drain a truck battery even over a very long time. More likely culprits are overhead cab lamps, or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Central NM Spring Shakedown - April 2018

Sounds like a wonderful NM tour! Congratulations on your acquisition of fine hand-woven Navajo rugs! (I favor the Velco method of hanging, FYI.) I just bought a little one at Teec Nos Pos last week. I intended to place it on a table on which to sit a few pieces of my pueblo pottery, now I'm not...

Fortunately, I live down near the river north of the Albuquerque city limits, so I don't have to deal with the traffic and issues of the city. Lots to love in NM, especially northern NM. Enjoy the Expo.
