RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel

I know that stretch, which is heading north past the Meadow Lake cemetery from the campground. I think there's Tollhouse and Catfish lakes if you keep going to Jackson Meadows. There are some deep ruts! Nevada Irrigation District has gated off the road to French Lake, but you can walk in to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel

Hey Craig Glad you got pulled out. Sounds a lot like some of those trails we use above Meadow Lake, heading towards the Baltimore Lake trailhead. Last time we were up, there was a tree across the road, and only the SxS folks had gone around. My Tundra just made it, but I know my bigger...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West River fire flyover by

Good commentary by our Juan Browne, one of Nevada County's gems. He's family with a good friend, and we've camped togeher. This fire was close to home, and one of my remodel projects was evacuated last Wednesday. The fire was less than a mile away, exploding from 20 acres to 2600 acres...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fire Rings - Clean Them Up!...And Make Them Disappear

How could anyone who loves the outdoors not be compelled to clean up a mess like this? These people are pigs. I'm always amazed they need to build another fire ring, twenty feet from the other fire ring. I'm especially annoyed when they build fires on bare rock, leaving scars that last decades.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Wildlife Photography Thread

I caught this fine buck nibbling on our grape leaves, just outside the garden fence. He let me walk down the garden path, with head high rows of tomatoes between us. I moved slowly and struggled to get my focus through the vegetation and fencing. He was curious, and I didn't threaten. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West And So They Continue........................Fires

I was at work in Grass Valley, but my view is west and north, so I didn't notice anything until 4:15pm when I looked out the front, south-facing window. Callie was with me today and heard me exclaim an expletive. She's just turned nine and still comes to work most days with me. I sent...

Yes, there's often a cross fitting which offers another tap. I think it's all 1/4" flare fittings.

Thank you for sharing your story. We know Russel from our winter trips to DVNP. Great guy. We could sure use some of that moisture here in northern California, sans the lightning.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best camper options for Gen 1 V8 Tundra

Well, you've gotten some good advice on ATC / FWC camper models, so I won't say much other than we've enjoyed 10 years with a first gen Tundra/Hawk combination visiting places we never would have camped otherwise. Suspension mods start with E rated tires. If you don't have them, you'll want...

My '08 Hawk had the truck wiring to the camper installed at a local shop. They used a battery isolator, which was located under the hood of my truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2 inch lift on truck

First gen Tundra owner here, celebrating 10 years of FWC wandering! :) I've got height adjustable Bilstein 5100 shocks and I think the mechanic set them at 1.5". Initially, the shocks were set a max height and the shock would "top out" if I dropped off a ledge with the front tires. Now that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

I'm contemplating whether I want to move my Yakima fairing to the new RAM pickup. I've only done 90 miles both ways to Reno with the camper/truck combo. It rides nicely and there's plenty of power when I want it. So far, I don't notice much noise, but it's a much better insulated truck...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lighthawk's New Truck For Their FWC Hawk

SR told me a long time ago. "Don't buy a big a** truck, Andy!" Well, it only took me ten years to change her mind.   Honestly, we love our current '06 Tundra, but wanted more payload, a back seat, (much) better brakes and a bigger gas tank in a newer vehicle. Our plan is...
