RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Christmas in Death Valley 2021

Thank for weighing in, Foy! I was hoping you would comment. What you say makes sense to me. Clearly the granite boulders are both on top of basalt and beneath another flow. There are are areas where the surface is composed of a mixture of volcanic and granitic material, which are much...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Christmas in Death Valley 2021

The granite boulders mentioned in my report are an interesting puzzle. They seem to be above one layer of basalt and beneath another. The lighter colored alluvial fans are a high percentage of granite.

I'll post up some photos for you to see. It's very odd to find them in a pocket, surrounded by basalt. There's some thought they might have been transported from the Paiute Monument batholith. They appear rounded by water action.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding Backup Cam

Very cool! I checked out OBDGENIE and asked them if I could add a second camera for our 2021 RAM. You'll love having one on your camper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winter Solstice Trip - December 2021

Great minds! We left on Friday the 17th and also chose NV 95 instead of 395 with chain controls. We were just a day ahead of you, using 360 over Montgomery Pass. We kept going to Big Pine and over North Pass to Saline Valley, but that's another story. We also photographed the rising moon...

We've now run the 1up on two offroad trips and have zero rattles. Ground clearance is pretty good too. Like Buckland and others, we're using a front receiver mount.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley NP for Thanksgiving

We're heading down next Saturday, weather and roads permitting. We went over Hunter from South Pass last December and noticed deep mud ruts in sections. Conditions were dry but there was ice at several locations. Hopefully this year will be a wetter year everywhere.

Thanks for your report. We've been on the backside of Hunter Mtn a few times, and have plans to return. Hidden Valley sand daunted me the first time, but we had a bypass. I've read there are petros nearby.

Very nice job. We did the same with Seattle Fabrics using a Singer 221. I never did get those eyelets for the D rings to look very good. Your work looks professional. We've used our home-made arctic pack down to 15F several times using a Wave 3 set on low. All those layers and air films add...

Thanks guys! I'm trying to get my wife more comfortable with driving these narrows so next time I can ride my bike down with her in the chase vehicle. That odd shaped rock in the background shows up here in this 2012 photo of our Tundra. Then again on a 2013 trip with the Ski3pins.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Goodyear Wrangler AT Tires. Set of 5

I used Craigslist, but had a commercial location for buyers. I'm leery of who I invite to my home. My listing title: FIRESTONE 275/70R18 E RATED - $500 It took a week or so, then a Yuba City farmer came with fresh Benjamins to cross my palm. I had only 900 miles on the set of five tires that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot Water Heater - Tank or Tankless - Fleet Shell Build

Assuming there are no dumb questions, what about using a DC to DC charger and preheating 6 gal of water while driving the last hour to camp? This assumes a tank and not on-demand.

Great article to get our attention, especially with reference to a FWC camper adding to the truck's overall weight. I just picked up a Toyota jack on Ebay for my second jack for $56 shipped. Model 09111-35150 - 1500kg - 3310lb - Earlier 4Runner. Truck weighs 7000lb and dry camper weighs...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do you level your rig?

I leveled my truck bed using a six foot level yesterday (camper is currently in the garage) and looked for a spot inside the cab to put my phone that was flat and level with the truck bed. In the RAM there was a lower tray that worked but the phone sits sideways to the truck. The beach ball...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How do you level your rig?

Thanks Vic! I feel a bit sheepish having one of our metric neighbors help me figure out I need to back up to the home screen. Now I keep putting the phone on our furniture inside the house to see how out of level our 48 year old home's floors are.
