Yes, Dacron is more resistant to UV than nylon and would be better in that regard. As you suggest, in the case of skin boats, the coating on the skin provides UV protection. We have not seen any issues with UV deterioration in the nylon skins but I suppose it could theoretically be an issue over...

Squatch, I have worked with both nylon and Dacron, which is a branded polyester. They are very similar in comparable weights and weave. We use a 9 oz. ballistic nylon. I like nylon better for several reasons. It stretches (especially when wet) which makes it easier to stretch around the boat...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ultralight canoe

I have built several fuselage style kayaks and stand-up paddleboards but not a canoe. The frame style makes more sense to me for a fully enclosed boat than for an open canoe. It is definitely easier to build the fuselage style. The strongback is simpler for the fuselage style boats since the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 12 V Slow Cooker /Crock Pot and 12 V Microwave Oven

You might check out vacuum thermo-cookers. I haven't used one but from what I've read, a lot of people like them. They work just like a slow cooker with no power requirement after initial heating on a stove. Keeps the food hot and continues cooking for up to 8 hours. Here's one example...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's winter! (meteorologically)

No shorts around here for a couple of weeks yet. But then, woohoo! Ski, highs forecast maybe into the 40°s! Thanks for sending that warm air our way (hopefully!). I should add that we are short of snow also. Would be really short but for the recent 12 inches we got.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West It's winter! (meteorologically)

Forecast here is calling for the coldest Super Bowl Sunday ever- single digit highs, below zero lows. Visitors will get a taste of Minnesota winter! We are currently living in the ice bowl- 12 inches of snow last week, then some warm days to make some slush and now the big freeze. Former slushy...

We use a light on the side for cooking fairly often. We have a shell so no inside kitchen. We use the rear porch light less often. We also have the rear flood lights but rarely use them- too bright!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension for 2017 Tacoma and FWC Fleet Shell

We have a 2011 Access cab TRD Off-road and an ATC shell camper. I'm not sure how the 2011 truck compares to the 2017 so this might all be irrelevant. The truck has the stock TRD Off-road suspension (with the factory extra leaf). We do not have air bags. The truck carries the camper without any...

Thanks for the compliment on the blog! I write it mostly to remind myself what I've done and where we've gone. :) I got the access door material from ATC when we picked up the camper- I already knew I was going to cut that hole. You might check with them. Otherwise, it is pretty standard...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Learn from my mistakes :(

I bought my Dometic fridge through Camping World. They didn't carry the fridge I wanted in stock but I was able to call Dometic directly (CW gave me the number to call) and order it through the CW account. They delivered it to my house and honored a CW coupon that I had. So you might try there.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West San Juan Islands 2018

Brings back memories of a 4-day guided kayak trip we took there about 10 years ago which we really enjoyed. The landscape is so similar to the boreal forest lake country of our northland, with the added feature of salt water. It was very interesting to us. We didn't see whales on our trip but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel Mount on FWC Roof Question

I agree with this- my panel (160 watt) spans the tracks and made installation easy. Plus the extra capacity is nice. Didn't really cost more either.
