    Bilstein shocks warning.

This has been bugging me for a bit. Gene, where did the dampers fail? The rod guide & seal or around the outer edge of that insert? Prior to the section of road/trail where they did fail was it high(er) speed wash-board or similar? I've seen the rod guide & seal fail from hard usage, but to do...

    Bilstein shocks warning.

Though the techs read to me on the phone that the 5100 is "not approved for other than light off-road use", I can not find that info anywhere on the Bilstein site. Even the owner's manual for the shock does not state this. In looking how to send these two blown shocks in for "lifetime warranty"...

Quickie to Saline Valley to try the washed out South Pass

Pictures don't look too bad, but they never do. Does make me want to go see for myself.... via Steele Pass.... Hello again ntsqd, Steele Pass seems to not have any damage from the storm. A number of vehicles came in and out of Steele Pass over the weekend. I love that pass! But it's been...

    Bilstein shocks warning.

I run Bilstein's & Fox's and will NEVER go back to a twin-tube type of damper. Twin-tubes never fail like this because they over-heat and fade away before they get the chance to hurt themselves. Before you give up on a superior design you might try employing two, purpose valved dampers per...

Quickie to Saline Valley to try the washed out South Pass

Link to photos is not working. This should work: http://forum.salinepreservation.org/post/South-Pass-100712-6040807 Again, the pictures don't tell the story. Read SilverBob's text.

Quickie to Saline Valley to try the washed out South Pass

Anne and I suddenly found ourselves free for 3 days so we did a quick trip to Saline Valley. There was barely anyone at the springs, the weather was a perfect 80 in the day, 60 at night. Both North and South Passes have been heavily impacted by a storm so that is why the population level is very...

    Bilstein shocks warning.

@ ski3pin: I was very impressed by the techs. They stand by their product, they just state that off road is not what the yellow/blue, 5100 nor 5160 are designed for. The only way to get an "off road" Bilstein is from their custom shop at hundreds per shock. At first I was furious with Bilstein...

    Bilstein shocks warning.

Hey, I want to tell you, as nice as the ride is with the Bilstein 5100, don't buy them. I blew out a second shock on a washboard road. Only 6 months old, two bad ones. Speaking to the two tech guys at Bilstein, they both agreed their shocks can't handle washboard. When I told the techs that...

    Sad Times...Request for help

If I lived anywhere close to you, I'd be there to help. I hope all goes well for the family. If they get some experience with that set-up, they can join us to the baja whales in March 2013. They can live Jimmy's dream for him. Show the wife this video: http://www.youtube.com/user/generubinaudio

    Yellowstone In The Fall

Think about hitting Hart Mountain and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuges. Never a crowd and Hart Mt. has hot springs, Sheldon has warm springs. Both are wide open spaces with few if any visitors.

2012 Dodge 4WD 2500 w/ Hawk on the White Rim Trail?

The White Rim Trail is a very, very easy trail. Barely even need 4wd. Here is a video with a couple of Dodge 2500's with ATC campers: http://youtu.be/t3obtfMVnX0

Hi Judy, You guys are from Bellingham. Do you know Ross and Candy? Ross died a year ago but they are pretty good friends of mine for years and years from Saline Valley. Being in Bellingham I hope you guys take advantage of BC, Yukon and NWT. Favorites of mine are Bella Coola, Dawson City and the...

    Upsizing

A few things to think about. A diesel Dodge from 2006 or under gets better mileage than a newer one. I get 19 to 22 with no camper (your 4 cylinder Toyota won't do much better than this). With camper 17 to 19. 2006 or under has no urea and runs well on Mexican diesel which is important for Baja...

3/4 ton is not the end all

My Dodge 2500 drops by only 3/4 inch with my ATC Ocelot. Leans a tad around corners but it don't bother me, I just go slower. My suspension is stock. I stay away from bags and sway bars because I don't need them and they do limit suspension flexibility when I am in rocky/stair step situations.

    Upsizing

Judy, Do it right this time. Go 3/4 ton. If you want 4x4 get a Ford or Dodge as you'll get a solid front axle. If you want a diesel, go Dodge as you'll get a super reliable Cummins. Gene

BFG AT tires wearing out early.

Jay and I have virtually the same truck. He got 40 or 50k on his sets. I got 25k to 30k but my tires get seriously more washboard, gravel and dirt roads. That may make more difference than I would have thought.

BFG AT tires wearing out early.

Ted, I have never gotten the kind of mileage others claim to get with their BFG AT's. My sets last maximum 30k, my last set only 22k. I just switched to Nitto Terra Grappler, we'll see how they do.

Could have been my son killed on Denali!

Wow, Gene. Gnarly story, but that's Denali. Guide sounds like an idjit (who cost the poor irishman his digits). Good call to hold Michael back. I have a climbing buddy who recently accomplished the classic route, self-guided too. I know he was carrying the right gear for self rescue. Hi...
