RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death valley information

I am currently trying to assimilate the ideas. I have been looking at the maps on these pages, specifically Routes from Las Vegas http://www.nps.gov/deva/upload/Routes%20from%20Las%20Vegas.pdf But you are coming from La Mesa,no? If you want to enter through the south east end of DV, there is...

I don't know about the 6.4. The 7.3 and 6.0 Ford's were known for this common failure of the camshaft position sensor. Dodge has not had the failures but at $30, I bought a Dodge CPS for my toolbox, just to be safe.

Stew, yes, agreed. It is much easier from the Death Valley side. Entering via Goler Wash is much more fun and closer for us who live to the west. For the original poster, I assume he would be already in DV, so entering from the east would be best for him.

Ford 6.0 and 7.3 users would be wise to carry a spare camshaft position sensor. They are not expensive, easy to replace, and known to fail leaving you stranded.

It will be the busiest weekend of the year at Saline as it is the Prez Weekend Softball game. Anne and I and our son Michael and Fiddlin' Phil Salazar will be there. In your Dodge (like mine) you have 38 gallons of fuel at 18 mpg gets you a range of 680 miles. You could drive every last road in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West seeking pop up camper for Tacoma

Judy, BTW, a Tundra would still have all the issues of requiring airbags, springs, bars and brakes. A 3/4 will require no mods. If you did decide to upgrade your truck go with a 3/4 ton. Diesel will get you better mileage than a gas 1/2 ton in most cases (especially Dodge). As with many others...

Hi Gene, We looked at a 2005 Outfitters Caribou 6.5 on CL just 45 minutes away. Very deluxe ($12,900)but too big and heavy for our Tacoma. Buying a Tundra would leave us in the poorhouse. I talked to Jeff at ATC this morning and knew this was someone we could deal with. He is sending...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DV, Southern Utah, or ? Mid May to mid June?

Gene & Others, Have you ever spent time doing the Grand Gulch backpacking trip? (roughly 22 miles) Been through there four times. The ruins and rock art are extraordinary! Anyone in that area should, with doubt park the rig and take a few days to do this backpacking trip! Paul Yes, I did...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DV, Southern Utah, or ? Mid May to mid June?

While you are in southern Utah, I would strongly recommend the one day river trip down the San Juan River from Bluff, Utah. The company to go with is Wild River Expeditions. Very nice people and very knowledgeable. Likely to be a high point of your trip. I've done it about 8 times and never get...

They are worth cost just as assurance that you don't burn a whole through the canvas should the light vibrate on while the camper top is lowered.

Hello, First time poster looking for a pop up camper for a 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 extended cab. It could be a 4 wheel camper or any other lightweight pop up for exploring backroads of Pacific Northwest. I, myself, have an ATC on my Dodge, love it! I would recommend the ATC (all terrain...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma brakes

Hey Andy, after the brakes were wet was it a dirt or gravel road you were on? It sounds to me like your ABS was kicking in, maybe in combination with wet tires slipping a bit. I had a Nissan a while back that I would remove the ABS fuse from while on dirt roads. It never seems to be an issue...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LED interior lights vs incandescent and Fluorescent

I use all warm LED's. The light is not much different than incandescent and as I use a Wave 3 (no electrical) for heat, and an ice box for cooling, the only need I have for 12 volts is my lighting. The draw is so low, I use an 18 amp/hr battery which is only a few pounds and the size of a cigar...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane and Wave 3

I have an ATC Ocelot shell version that I bought recently from Jay Aronow Camper Sales. I simply mounted the Wave 3 to the wall as in the picture. I would not use feet, having it screwed in place saves space and it is always there, no need to pack it. I use a 2.5 gallon tank inside, the hose...

I know I'm digging up an old, old thread, but Stan says above that the white wire coming from the camper is positive and the black is negative, but on my 1991 Grandby, I have white and red wires, no black. I don't know what to ASS-U-ME about this, and not sure how to test it. Please advise...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Features: The useful and not-so-useful

Hi Mark, My point exactly. Those who want to leave them on, should. But, I guess since I've seen the results of Dave's trailer, I'll turn mine off. I suppose there is a move towards 12 volt Engel fridges anyway. Jay Aronow is telling me he has already sold through his first opening order and has...

Propane powered vehicles have very well protected tanks. You have a point about the regulator. As long as it is not sheared off in an accident. Whatever the cause of Dave's leak, had the tank been turned off, there would not have been the destruction. Washboard roads can do a number on the best...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Features: The useful and not-so-useful

I was at Saline visiting and checking out the trailer. I said my "good byes" to Dave and left. One week later I returned to Saline to find the remnants of his trailer on Bat Road. It was those in camp that were there that told me what a racket and huge fire it created. That Dave barely...
