RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Sunman is famous! Great article on his trips:

Let us know, we go there a few times a year. Nice and close, plus we own the whole damn mountain to ourselves! We usually camp at the very end, near the hiking trail into the Condor Wilderness. You camp at the end or at the fire ring?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Full Size Truck For Ruff Country Travel (W/ A Pop Up Camper)

I'll try not to go any farther off topic of this thread but you can go on youtube and see Tesla race and beat practically every USA muscle and foreign exotic car you choose. Tesla P85 does 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds: Dodge Viper vs. Tesla: To get this thread back on track. Since we are talking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Full Size Truck For Ruff Country Travel (W/ A Pop Up Camper)

Not at all. The only reference ever made to Ford F150 was Elon mentioning the F150 as best selling truck. Tesla would never use a transmission nor transfer case. Thanks to Tesla's full torque from 1 to 16,000 RPM only one gear is used, no transfer case needed. Extremely strong regenerative...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Full Size Truck For Ruff Country Travel (W/ A Pop Up Camper)

Sadly the Titan and Tundra diesels will only come with auto transmissions. Way too unreliable for my travels. These days only full size with a manual is Dodge Cummins. Hopefully the Jeep Wrangler Pick-Up diesel will arrive with a manual trans. But hell....by then, the Tesla 4wd 1/2 ton...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ocelot 72" vs 78"

Hello Steve, I have the 78" Ocelot. I am 5'7 and with the foot space and pillow space needed, I think 72 might be too narrow to sleep east/west. Even with the 78"s I use only the standard, Dodge 2500, non towing mirrors. The camper only extends 2 inches or so beyond the fenders and clearly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Winter Storm Nov 2013

Kevin, The road in the video is Goler Wash which is much more extreme than 95% of the DV roads. On your own with a 4x4 I would recommend Titus Canyon and Race Track which are both very, very easy roads that most of the time even a 2wd can travel. There is no camping allowed along these roads...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Winter Storm Nov 2013

The folks with the Eurovan should not skip the trip based on their vehicle. DV area is absolutely a place of wonder regardless of which roads one travels. But if the Eurovan is cancelling for other reasons and you are there only with your 4x4, then yes, you will have many more options on places...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley Winter Storm Nov 2013

Kevin, DV and its environs is huge and limitless for places to visit and camp. Outside of the actual Park Service campgrounds, DV is one of the few parks that offer camping anywhere within certain limits. You have to check their website for the rules but it is something like at least some miles...

@Craig, yes, actually those pictures are coming out. They are not from last weekend, but a few years ago. I showed them as per the discussion of the Joshua Trees with snow.

When it snows like what you were dealing with at DV, the way into Saline is via Lippincott. I've had to do the Lippincott route due to snow at least a dozen or so times over the last 30 years. You start at Ubehebe to the Race Track and then down Lippincott into Saline. Highest elevation you hit...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hauling a FWC on a 1998 Tacoma: Leaf springs/air bags/shocks?

Many members here are tired of my rant about overloading little trucks but here you go: I'd recommend something like Deaver Springs, no airbags please. Though you are seriously overloading your truck and braking performance will be near dangerous (actually, it will be dangerous), at least with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Headed to Saline Valley Sun thru Wednesday

Report: We just got back from a wonderful few days at Saline. We had the entire Palm Springs to ourselves and our friends which came along. Lower Springs had maybe three camps plus Lizard Lee. We took the South Pass. I've done the south well over 100 times in the last 30 years. Grapevine Canyon...

Smoke, I have spent quite a bit of time in your area and up a bit north of you in the Alvord and Blackrock deserts. When I was a lad, I used to go to Walking G camp outside of Taylorsville. Two years ago Anne and I went back to visit Susanville, Greenville and Taylorsville. Really, not so much...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Headed to Saline Valley Sun thru Wednesday

Smoke, Well, I have been traveling for many, many years to some really fine places. But Saline Valley Hot Springs is the place I call home. You need a few days there to get the feel of it. There are a few entry roads. At this time the North Pass is impassable, so we are going in the South Pass...

Hi guys, Anne and I decided to do a quick trip to Saline. Leaving Sunday (tomorrow the 20th) morning early from Ventura. We'll be there Sunday through end of Wednesday. Just saying.....in case anyone is headed there. Andy? Suni? skis? South Pass is the way for us. Supposedly in bad shape but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where to go for Christmas? Baja or SW tour?

Andy, you'll freeze your butts off in the SW. Baja still has a few places where you can be alone. Bahia De Las Animas, just south of Bay of LA would be low to zero in population. A really gorgeous Sea of Cotez trip is the lonely coast going north from La Paz to San Evaristo. I have had warm...

I am glad you had good experiences in our neighborhood. Next time consider East Anacapa Island. It is a rather different experience than Santa Cruz Island. You are up on a flat tableau looking over the edges to the ragged coast below. The most photographed and painted scenery is from the west...
