It's been a number of years but we found nice boondock camping around the Morman Lake area, lots of forest service roads if I recall correctly. Couldn't recommend a special spot but I'm sure you will find one of your own. Lake Mary Road is where we turned off I think.

Down would definitely be best for your passenger consideration.

Down is easier but if you encounter somebody coming up you'll be the one doing the backing up. It's a good idea to use any turn out and your co-pilot to constantly scan for rigs coming up.

I occasionally use an ancient Motorola FRS that I originally used for skiing/snowboarding. We've been using them on our group Baja trips, they work great within a mile or two if you are within LOS. Excellent tool to help with passing down there, calling out "clear to pass" traffic calls or...

I'll bet they were just cleaning up the the crossing through the wash you need to travel though to get to Lippincott. That probably got pretty hammered along with everything else.

They are strong enough to have the elevator bolts on the camper shear first or rip through the plywood of the camper...official strength? I dunno. But I'd reckon plenty strong for anything you are likely to dish out. Mine are not even remotely bent.

Bill some folks use porta potti's or WAG bags and such, there are some threads on this subject. That said, I think most of us go the old fashioned route and dig a proper hole.

Whale counts are really starting to jump in the lagoons. Been seeing them heading south every day out front and near my work as well. They are on the move.

Having just returned from Saline Valley this afternoon I can tell you this was a topic on many folks' mind. With the rich history found there one would think they could/would consider it a historical landmark in league with mines, old structures and such.

This statement alone may have just sold me on it. I've downloaded the app but have yet to explore it. If you haven't heard it already I highly recommend Rollins' Choice (Blue Note Suggestions by Henry Rollins).

I did that once but i had to pull my battery from my camper and use my cables. It was a good feeling as it would have been a long walk or wait.
