    roof "oil canning"

Ski. Would you happen to have a pic of your panels? Were leaving in 2 days but maybe I will make a change when we get back in September . Thanks.

    roof "oil canning"

W.S. It never does it when not moving , no matter how windy and it only does it occasionally when meeting a transport or with certain crosswinds. Must be the wind getting under the panel. I'm sure there are lots of solar panels mounted directly to the tracks like mine is. Probably overthinking...

    roof "oil canning"

Your probably right Ski. I guess I just didn't know how to describe it. Was just talking to Jeff and he said as long as MY mounts are solid to the track its no problem. The panel has been on this way for 3-4 yrs now so I'm probably just starting to worry more in my old age !! Do any of you Guys...

    roof "oil canning"

Meant to ask this a while back. I have a 160 W panel ( approx 26 x 55) mounted directly to the full length tracks on my Ocelot. I notice a fair bit of "oil canning" in the roof at times, especially when meeting large trucks. Probably a normal thing , but I was thinking of installing a sill...

    AK Trip and Covid

Heading out wed morning to start our AK trip that's been on hold for a few years as well. We've had a few excursions booked for months and were told at the time we were required to mask up while on the float plane and inside the cabin on the water taxi. With everything that is going on out there...

    Air bags, finally.

Frank . We are leaving in a week to visit my Sister in Edmonton and then on to Anchorage to meet our Daughter and her Hubby . Have a few weeks planned with them and when they fly home we will carry on. Hoping to do the Dempster and then start working our way back home, with another stop in...

    Air bags, finally.

Finally decided to install air bags on my Chevy Trail Boss. I ended up going with Timber Grove bags . I will be mounting my Ocelot shell to-day for our trip west. I have a few questions since I have no experience with bags. What would be a good starting point for pressure? Do you just measure...

    carrying full size spare

    Propane tank on the outside?

fleet. I made my own that looks a lot like the AT Overland holder . I just used longer bolts to fasten it to the jack bracket so when I install the jacks they just slide onto the bolts. No need to remove the tank.

    carrying full size spare

Thanks for the replies everyone. After measuring , it looks like I can put a matching size spare underneath.

    carrying full size spare

Thinking of carrying a full size E rated spare on our up-coming Alaska , Dempster trip from Ontario , rather than just the factory spare. I will be removing the back seat of our Chevy crew cab and thinking I should just carry it there. Probably wouldn't fit underneath anyway. Anyone carry theirs...

    ATC Panther vs. Ocelot

We had ATC build us a 72" wide Ocelot 4 yrs ago and it sits on a Chevy Trail Boss. This is our first camper and we knew we would be doing mostly long trips and rarely spend more than one night in any place. Only time we had longer stays was on our trip to Baja. I have to say , there are times...

    Off truck camper use

I don't think it is recommended but I see Grizzley and Bear do it all the time.

    time on the Dempster.

Thanks Guys. We were thinking 5-6 days also. We will be leaving home mid July to meet our Daughter and Son in law at the Anchorage airport on July 29th. They are renting a camper van for 2 weeks to travel around with us . When they fly home we will continue on up to Tuk before making our way home.

    time on the Dempster.

Unless things go completely sideways again we will finally be doing our Alaska trip this summer. We also plan on driving the Dempster. I know some of you Guys have driven it and was wondering how much time you think we should allow for it. Thanks.

    Garmin Overlander ?

Anyone have any experience with this Garmin? Truck doesn't have a nav system and there are a few features I like about the Overlander. That being said, they would have to go on sale before I would own one.

    Catalytic Converter Thefts

It seems to be a thing in small town Ontario, Canada too. Two contractors I know had the converters cut off their work vans last week.

    ATC flatbeds

Wondering if some of you flatbed owners would mind a few questions? What is the length and width of your camper ? (not including cab-overhang) Do you have it set up for sleeping with-out popping the top? If you don't mind could you post a few pics or PM me for my E mail and you could send them...

    Adding Backup Cam

Would consider Camera source but with the exchange, duty and shipping I didn't think it would be worth the hassle.

    Adding Backup Cam

Well, I picked up the harness yesterday and found it didn't include the camera. It was a new Guy in parts and he thought it included the camera. No problem, I thought it sounded too good. Anyway , another 140 bucks for the camera.

    different ways to travel

Been watching a bit of Youtube lately and came across a couple of completely different (and interesting) ways to overland. The X overland group travels in rigs and equipment that I could only dream of having. Then you have Ed March of C90 Adventures traveling the same places with next to nothing...

    Adding Backup Cam

My 2017 Chev came with a blank in the glove box. Traded to a 2020 , no blank, and the connector was 4 times bigger and a pain to seal off. Ordered the harness with the tailgate camera last week. ($95 CDN) I will make a box and mount it under the door.

    Sightings thread

Agree 100% !!! I never see any in my area. When traveling through Nova Scotia last Sept I had a lot of people asking questions . One Guy insisted I follow him to his home so he could show his Wife. Another Guy followed me until I pulled into a store and quizzed me for a while.
