    Truck Fridge Portable Fridge

Yes I bought a 2nd 12v power cord. I cut the end off and used a way bigger than needed Anderson power plug connector. I used the 50 amp just because I had them in stock and only needed to buy a couple of reducing sleeves for 16 gauge to crimp it on. Same deal I wanted to keep a 2nd cable for...

    Truck Fridge Portable Fridge

Do yourself a favor and ditch the lighter plug for a real 12 connector.

    2007 FWC Eagle Build

I want to add outside struts to mine soon. The inside ones I'll keep as a backup. But would like them out of the way.

    Truck Fridge Portable Fridge

I have the TF51 and love it. I wouldn't go smaller. In the real world inside volume is less than my 54qt Coleman cooler. But no ice so that does make a difference. The basket is nice but takes up space. I don't use it much. A case of beer or canned soft drinks will fill the bottom then I put...

    Loo questions?

Maybe I should have been clearer. I'm not living on the road in my camper. Composting toilets are great. But they are a long term answer. I have a short term need. I was just thinking that Sawdust might be a better medium for the Bucket than kitty litter. Especially cedar. Typically the bucket...

    Loo questions?

We've been using a "Lugable Loo" for a while in the camper. Or as I like to call it the human litter box. Normally line with a trash bag and use some unscented Kitty litter. I works but can build some smell on occasion. I was reading today in a magazine about a homemade composting toilet in a...

    The Moon Truck

Buckland this is far my my 1st time through. I've been fixing up weird old cars since before I had a license. The Trooper got a new frame. Like most of my stuff. My boat was junk when I got it. Same with my tractor. It's a disease some of us are born/cursed with! Being a poor kid...

Replace truck back window so it opens?

My thoughts on the sliding rear window revolve around emergencies. Say bear or human attack on the camper. crawl through and drive away. Not a likely scenario but who knows. My new truck has a full electric up and down sliding window that's much bigger than the removable camper window. Not a...

    Minimalist approach?

I camp in my yard all the time! Yesterday I opened the Eagle for the 1st time since you stopped by. I wanted to check for snow melt leaks. no problems. I ran the furnace for a while. if I only had one option that would be it, Heat is good! I think a lot depends on what you are used to. I've...

    Minimalist approach?

Is anyone making a camper that forgoes the actual flat bed and mounts directly to the frame of a chassis cab truck? To me the side entrance of the flatbed style is a big thing. It eliminates the issues of swing gates and other extra weight at the rear just to be able to get in the camper with a...

    Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

The air trap is more of a function of the distance from my tow rig than anything else. Just getting it closer to the camper would clean up the air stream a lot. My concern with mounting the camper backwards would be balance. Just like the truck you want the weight fairly centered over the axle...

    Minimalist approach?

Probably not much difference between an extended cab 8' bed and a crew cab 6' bed in overall truck length. I guess maybe it comes down to where you want to store your camera gear ect. In the camper or in the truck cab. As you know I have the crew cab and a small camper. If I had more camper...

    2007 FWC Eagle Build

Before you drill any holes. What length are your lift struts? The 36" struts used on many of these camper is not long enough. For an Eagle you will need 40" long struts. Eagles have taller canvas because of the shorter hard sides compared to a Hawk.

    Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

So to continue this saga. A friend was moving recently and I bought his old drop gate utility trailer for cheap. Just like this one but 4x7 not 4x6. https://www.carry-ontrailer.com/utility-trailers/4x6g/ The plan was to possibly use it for the camper. Maybe for the road but mainly for storage...

    Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

It amazes me they still make straight axle trailers. They are pretty much self destructive. Only the tires for suspension. I have a little experience with this question. When I bought my camper (A used 2012 Eagle shell) I didn't have a pickup on the road. So I used my boat trailer. it normally...

    Random FWC Photos

I love your term "luxurious". In the truck camper world the FWC is considered spartan. But for many of us compared to the ways we camped for year they are indeed Luxurious!

    Topper window question

I haven't done this exact thing before. But for what it's worth. Those new style seals are called bulb seals. I'm sure it can be had aftermarket by the foot if you have to. But I had an ARE cap. My LED brake light gave up within the 1st year. ARE sent the dealer a new one quickly no questions...

    Couldn't handle it any longer....

We haven't had much issue with condensation under the mattress. On the walls and ceiling in cold weather yes. I'm thinking the 1/2" of blue rigid foam under the mattress makes a big difference. The mattress no longer sits on cold plywood.

    Why canvas/vinyl and not panels?

We understand. That's how Alaskan does it for the cab over section. Look close at the pics in this thread. http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/13327-new-alaskan-2016-55-co/

    Smoke Detector Batteries

I was on a trip in December. I stopped at the grocery on the way out of town. When I came back to the truck I heard a weird sound from outside. I opened the door and the smoke alarm was chirping at me. I went back into the store and got a replacement battery! Much better to do it ahead of time...

    Why canvas/vinyl and not panels?

I believe the cab over portion uses folding panels. 2 main reasons for a pop-up. Low profile, weight reduction. The point of campers like the FWC and ATC is to keep weight as light as possible while still providing basic amenities. That tends to dictate construction methods somewhat. Solid...

    Basic NOOB camper questions

I have a FWC Eagle in my '06 Tundra. Much of my usage will be just what you are planning. I should have pics up within the month with my bass boat behind it. I have towed it with the camper on just for a trial and it towed fine. But it's not real heavy. Check my threads for the few mods I've made.

Check the Alaskan forum. They use hard panels.
