1st gen Tundra tell me about your shocks and suspension.

I spoke with someone in the tech dept at Bilstein. They said stick with the 5100 not the 6112 for hauling the camper. The valving for the 6112/5160 is more for off roading. The 5100 is more for controlling heavy loads. I'm still interested in other options you may have tried.

1st gen Tundra tell me about your shocks and suspension.

The time is coming to upgrade the shocks on my '06 Tundra Crewcab. I'm curious to see what others are running. Currently I have Firestone airbags, Helwig rear sway bar and E rated Cooper STMAXX tires. Otherwise the truck is stock. I'm toying with replacing or adding to the rear springs as the...

110V system, have it or not, use it or not

I have an Eagle shell without shore power. Don't need it don't want it. On the few occasions that we camp where there is power I will drop an extension cord out of a turnbuckle door. I do this occasionally to run the Mr Coffee. Once this year I used the same method at home for a portable...

    Fleet Tacoma Bucking/Shuddering/Bouncing

All four shocks to be replaced? Just rear, just front? What's the reasoning for this choice? I'll replace them all. I believe in matching all 4 corners. My main reasoning is that the stock shocks on all vehicles are pretty wimpy. At 60k miles mine are showing they are tired. Time for better...

    Fleet Tacoma Bucking/Shuddering/Bouncing

Just got back from yet another almost 2,000 mile trip. My Tundra has the stock shocks on it. It is becoming obvious that they are getting tired now that I'm running the camper a lot. So this winter It'll be getting new shocks. I'm also looking into adding some heavier rear springs. Other than...

Doesn't anyone use their slide-in in the Southeastern U.S.

I've found that in the off season many campgrounds here in the east are quite nice. You often have them all to yourself. Places I wouldn't get near during the summer. I also take advantage of the National Forests. Both quiet campgrounds and back country.

I need to hear a good new joke

................The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection. The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration, as she missed...

    Cooper ST Maxx?

I've run BFG AT KO's for years. Great tire. But anyone that thinks they are too loud is ready to sell their truck and buy a luxury car.

    Electrical Safety Check

Being a boater I always use big wingnuts on my battery terminals. This allows me to easily check them often. When in doubt a little blue Loc-Tite goes a long way. Glad you found this before it caused a real problem. Is your battery strapped down? Main cause of cables getting loose in my...

    Cooper ST Maxx?

I'm getting close to 10k miles on these tires. They are mostly used on the highway for long trips. I've done at least 4 trips of +or- 2,000 miles so far and a bit of gravel roads and hauling stuff on soft ground around the property. No complaints. I'd buy them again tomorrow. Can't say I even...

    Firestone airbags and daystar cradles?

Latest pic from a few weeks ago. This was taken in NC after a 10 hour drive. I have to say the whole rig works fine with the airbags and sway bar.

How important are rear lockers vs. "limited slip"?

GP you posted while I was typing. Good post. I agree. Good tires and a LSD will take you places street tires and a locker won't! An after market locker can be added to your existing truck much cheaper than buying a new truck.

How important are rear lockers vs. "limited slip"?

Here is the difference. With both tires on the ground they will act the same and give power to both wheels. If one rear tire is lifted the one in the air will get the power with a LSD. Applying a little brake pedal will help some. With one tire in the air a locker will still send full power to...

    Batteries

I just replaced the last of my Optima's. I had 4 Blue Top Marine group 34. 1 for the truck and 3 for the boat. These were the US made ones before Johnson Controls bought them and moved production to Mexico. Mine lasted 8+ years of rough use in a 4x4 that was regularly off roaded and in a bass...

Solar Power for your Camper – Where to Start (Hint: The Solar Panels are last in this list of steps

Other than bad charging habits I think the biggest killer of batteries is vibration. The bumps and bangs of being in a vehicle don't do the plates any favors.

Good for you. A lot different response than I got from them.

My FWC dealer went bankrupt last week, and I pick it up tomorrow.

Get it while you can! Don't sweat warranty stuff unless you have a reason to. Many of us bought ours used with no warranty and no dealer anywhere near. No regrets.

    Delaminating underside of Fleet

I'd clean the area well with a brush and some bleach water. Make sure it is good and dry then paint the whole bottom with some grey porch enamel. 2 coats. Work it in well with a brush. Then keep and eye on it. It'll probably last a long time if you keep it dry and painted.

    Kidde fire extinguisher recall

Both the ones in my boat, the one in my camper, 3 more in the house and garage. All on the list. Called the telephone number and got quick answer. They are sending out replacements.

My First FWC... How many custom "Shell" builds are there?

I have an Eagle shell. Mine was bought used with rollover couch, stove, furnace. Can't say I've felt a need to build it further other than adding a truck fridge to the floor and solar to support it. I like the open space of the shell vs a built camper. Lighter weight is a big plus as well...

    Thanks folks.

    Recomend a cheap charge controller.

Small under 200 watts for sure. We plugged one of these fridges into an outlet in my camper. The Trimetric only showed about 2 amp draw with a warm fridge.

So does Solar Blvd. Hoping to hear from about something folks have actually used.

    Recomend a cheap charge controller.

Just got back from a gathering of my Isuzu group. Someone had arranged a group buy of used medical vehicle refrigerators. Similar to my Truckfridge but without any bells an whistles. I believe they were from a drug distributor. Anyway several folks bought them and now have an interest in part...

    Random FWC Photos

A stop on the road in North Carolina to another few days of camping with friends. Longest trip so far pulling the boat with the camper mounted. 9 hours one way. Drove just fine and dandy! The reward was an evening on the lake with both full moon and sunset at the same time.
