    New ATC's Are Awesome

So if it's geezelle, does that mean a male gazelle is a gazer? I'm sorry --I'm hijacking a perfectly good thread. I'll shut up now.

    New ATC's Are Awesome

Also a geezer--I like my old interior, although I really like the new floor covering. Doesn't show the dirt as quickly ;) I too like ATC because it's basic and also the excellent customer service. BTW, what is the feminine form of geezer? Geeza? Geezette would be a young female geezer...

    Carson to Wellington Backcountry Byway

Looks great. Re the melting lighter: Once when I was driving a VW Vanagon, I didn't realise I had a plastic lighter sitting against the heater in the back. And yes, it went "Bang!" Nothing else bad happened. What was good was I'd just crossed the US-Canada border and I think something...

    I purchased a 2013 Hawk - sudo trip report

Welcome to the gang. Sounds like a really nice trip. Tri-Crown is a great outfit--they rescued me once when I thought I had a (gulp!) propane issue. It turned out to be very minor--but they sure were helpful and friendly.

    Silent And Deadly

For the record: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/14/eagle-owl-caught-dutch-town-attacks-purmerend-netherlands Looks like a pretty tough bird.

    Silent And Deadly

Yes. For sure a great horned. Magnificent bird. The Portland bird mentioned above is a barred owl if I remember rightly.

    Silent And Deadly

Actually barred owls are rather infamous for attaching joggers. There are signs up in Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver warning people about their aggressive behaviour. One of my buddies was frightened witless one night by one nailing him on the back of his head AND HANGING ON! And I've read...

Thinking about a new truck. What to buy?

Currently driving a 2008 Ford Ranger. Seems relatively inexpensive to run and maintain, handles my ATC/FWC hybrid very happily. Unlikely I'll need to replace it soon (fingers crossed.) But here's my question re imports: if they do have a problem, is access to parts, etc. as easy as Ford...

Offroad - Off Camber Turn in FWC

Yep, definitely a brown trousers moment. It does look like more spotting might have prevented this, but writing that is probably loading my karma...or my truckma?

I need to hear a good new joke

Yesterday I was at my local Safeway buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog and was in the check-out line when the woman behind me asked me what kind of a dog I owned? So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that I didn't have a...

    Drinking house (camper) water

To some extent it does seem as though it is a question of acclimatisation. I lived in the Netherlands for a couple of years, at a time a lot of folks from Turkey were coming to work there. The Turks all seemed to get sick from the tap water in Amsterdam, which seemed fine to me.

    Drinking house (camper) water

I'm honestly NOT anti-hygeine, and I think Ski3 and co are right that handwashing etc. are as good a protectant against getting sick while travelling (and otherwise). I do use hand sanitizer when I can't wash properly. Still, I do think this article may have some relevance to this discussion...

Favorite signs you've come across while wandering?

Seen while kayaking: Sign about 30 yards offshore in English Bay in Vancouver, BC. "Dogs must be on leash beyond this point..." Seriously?

    Drinking house (camper) water

I always thought green slime was very nutritious. Ten years with a VW camper, never added chlorine or anything. Probably spent 3 months minimum out of each year travelling in it. Drank water whenever. A little cautious at fill-ups, as some of the water in some BC communities can be a bit...

    Southern or Central Oregon

If it's a family-type campground with boating, you're looking for, Cove Palisades near Bend (Madras, actually) might be a good choice. It can be hot, but there are some good hikes in the area, and interesting geology. Easy access. Generally pretty full, but depending on which site you get, it...

    New Outrage!

I agree about noise. I'm not very fond of generators or loud music or barking dogs or yelling kids either, but: The issue in this case was less the noise than that this wretched thing was circling about 20 feet above the campsites. I equate that with someone walking through my site...

    New Outrage!

Spent three mostly nice days camped at Doran Park near Bodega Bay this week, but met up with something that I sure hope isn't the shape of things to come. Yesterday afternoon two idiots spent about a half hour playing with a drone and GoPro, zooming over the bay, the Head, and the campsites...
