    Rubber Truck Bed Mat?

The ATC crew suggested I remove my rubber truck bed mat when they installed my Ranger II. As I understood, it delayed drainage.

Grey water disposal in sub-freezing weather

Hi, Heading out into winter country soon and trying to think of pre-emptive stuff. I rigged a grey water disposal as per Ski3s posting http://www.wanderthewest.com/forum/topic/7651-gray-water-disposal/?p=85668 which works just dandy in temperate conditions, but I'm thinking it will have...

    How Wonderful Is That?

Yep. Pretty amazing. Thanks for this. I've seen similar behaviour in really big flocks of dunlin and western sandpipers off the shore of SW British Columbia. Always wonder how they manage not to impale one another. Precision flying and long beaks seem kinda tricky.

    Tofte Ski Trip

Thanks for report. That's amazing country. I spent a week backpacking along the shore in Pukaskwa National Park in Canada some years ago and found it the most challenging terrain I've ever hiked. I can only imagine what it would be like in winter.

Is this, as I suspect, a photoshopped con?

Thanks, I thought it was kinda bogus. My cousin is disappointed. Pity she can't see the glory in the real stuff.

Is this, as I suspect, a photoshopped con?

I suspect this is mortifyingly stupid: My cousin came by today and, knowing I like the out of doors, thought I'd know the answer to this. She'd seen what she regards as a really cute TV ad for Nationwide car insurance that includes a red-rock heart-shaped stone arch. I think the whole thing...

    Insulating cab over

Thanks, Kispiox, never have put a vehicle in storage. Never headed into winter in northern BC, yet, and doubt that anywhere that cold would be seriously damp.. That said, November can be rather intense. Ditto for northern Vancouver Island. NTSQD, thanks. I've used the hanger-type doo-dads...

    Insulating cab over

Hi Kispiox, (Love the handle--great part of the world!) I acquired a new-to-me but rather famous Ranger II in Sacramento last fall, and have camped in it twice for three-night stints at Bodega Bay. Nothing like Northwest temperatures, of course, although the first three day stint was...

Help, Cabin Fever, Need to find a Beach without Gale Force Winds!

Hope you find nice weather. I'm just back from 3 days at Doran. Weather was kinda mixed (rain, fog, sunshine) but not particularly windy. Mildly breezy two evenings, but from the northwest and therefore sheltered by the Head. In general I think many local folks will tell you that Bodega...

    Winter Solstice 2013

I just found an interesting rainfall map from the NOAA at http://www.cnrfc.noaa.gov/google.php?type=precip Based on what it says, rainfall amounts have varied quite a bit within the Sacramento area and some places have had as much at 4 inches in the past 48 hours. That's a pretty good...

    Nevada - Close to Home

Thanks for another wonderful account, Ski3pin. Wonderful country, great photos. Yes. Nevada in winter is quite special, even when it has way less snow than usual. Plan Bs are a very good idea.

Roads to Wander that are Passable with 2WD

I guess there are advantages to 4 WD, although I've covered a lot of back roads in British Columbia with various 2WD vehicles. One suggestion: if you're not sure, get out and walk a bit of the road to check it out. Backing out of tricky bits can be, er, tricky. Good tires are a must, as is...

    Pinnacles National Park

Thanks for the report. I camped there last January, tent camping. I was kinda shocked at the temperature change -- it was somewhere in the 70s to 26. My water bottle froze solid in the night. It wasn't crowded at all, but it wasn't a long weekend. Magnificent place, great walks. The...

Another Campground Incident – What Would You Do?

Sorry you folks had this experience. My first thought was, "Pinnacles CG full in January?" But now I remember that they close off a bunch of the sites in winter. I also remember that some of the sites are kinda ambiguous re which table belongs where, and could cause confusion if someone came...
