Oak tree vs. barn

About 15 seconds before the tree snapped I came out of the barn. I was standing where the blue water container is sitting under the shed roof. I feel very lucky that I was knocked to the ground with only a bruised hand. Poor llamas will be exposed to the weather for the foreseeable future. Our weather has been a bit rough this week.

Yeah, it could have been a tragedy. It's my buddy's barn and his house is within striking distance of those rotten trees. I feel fortunate, too.

Was this a result of freezing-rain-ice weight on the limb?
I know the Valley (non-Oregonians: this means "Willamette Valley") had bad freezing rain -- made the NBC Nightly News last night.

I go back east for funeral services and I miss all the exicting stormy weather back at home ..

The llamas were very agitated, but quickly calmed down and began to supervise the salvage of their food supply.
Half an inch of ice on top of twelve inches of snow brought down an untold number of trees in the area. Thank goodness there was no wind.
