    Building a back porch

Sometime I carry my dual sport on a rack behind the bumper but never feel great confidence in how secure it is. Weighs about 350#. I'm thinking of having something better fabricated, use at least two receiver tubes. Maybe even a third would be my existing receiver that would extend to the end...

    Grandby (1999) on 2007 Tundra (6.5ft bed)?

i did have a spring kit added to my truck yesterday which allegedly adds about 800# to the carrying capacity. Allegedly  In reality doesn't add a pound but should keep the sag to a minimum and keep your headlights pointing down the road. You can help it out by making sure you have...

    New Additions to the Stable

Barko- I don't know if you are aware of ADVrider.com but they have a section called Old's Cool with 370 different threads. If you are looking for parts or just want to show it off that is a good place. Your bike is sweet, good luck on the restoration. Thanks, I am an ADV'r and have already...

    New Additions to the Stable

Right after a bad semester in college, and therefore right before the Army, I worked at a bike shop. Insanely I could ride everything they had (and ride them insanely I did :o ). We had a used Kawasaki 500, or maybe 750, that someone made into a chopper, they were fast, wobbly, and not the best...

Alaskan sits low in my truck

..then fill the centers of the frame with the rigid insulation as suggested by Barko. Have fun.. Actually my suggestion was not 2x4's at all, just the blue insulating board. Works great for my Grandby which is probably lighter but I was surprised that the blue board didn't seem to compress...

    New Additions to the Stable

Those Hustlers were THE cool bike back in the day. I've always lusted after one of the Kawasaki triple. I rode a friend's 750 and it was the scariest bike I've ever ridden. The power curve was like the Tetons, flat as can be then Wham!! Probably good that I haven't found one. Right after a...

    New Additions to the Stable

OK Realbtl, I hold you responsible  I started searching Craigslist for "250" and just bought myself a garage project! Got a blast from the past, a 1967 Suzuki X6 Hustler Scrambler  These are 250cc 2 stroke twins that would out accelerate a nice fat Harley. Road trip to get it...

    New Additions to the Stable

Sherpa's are good little machines! Light weight is good, I may add a 250 to the stable.

    What year is this Ranger?

Looks similar to my 98 (I think) Grandby, same fabric, door, windows. Looks a little long

    Alaska

1000 gallons, so if the price is up $1 plan on an extra 1000 bucks. I wouldn't have wanted $1000 to stop from ever driving up there but it is getting pricey. Camping I'll spend a lot less than most anyway, a room at the super crappy motel on the Dalton by the Yukon was $180 a night a couple...

    Spring Time!

I think we are at the 3rd longest stretch without rain, and looks like we will be second by next week and probably 1st shortly after that. Still a lot of smoke and back to 40 mph winds blowing it towards HighZ. Drought in the desert, a good year we get 7.5" Here is what Chihuhuan Dest weather...

    Spring Time!

We're eating the smoke from that fire right now at the observatory all the way across the Tularosa basin. I smell it when I go outside. This morning it's looking more under control, good thing because the winds are coming back.

    Spring Time!

7000+ acres in the Organ Mtns 12 miles from me up in smoke but apparently in some ways beneficial, not too hot and not threatening anything. Different fire burned up a picnic area at Sitting Bull Falls in the Guadalupes. At least the wind has been down. Rough Spring!

Alaskan sits low in my truck

I used to do the 2x4 routine but I found that a sheet or two of 4x8 blue rigid insulation works great. It must cushion things a bit, provides 32 sq' of insulation, camper hasn't loosened at all, and easy :)

    camping directory/guide

I may be looking into a wifi antenna though. I saw a cool article on the web yesterday on how to make a decent one from a tin can and a couple adaptors :) Since we are seniors we can pull the "we are really tired and lost and need to stop for a rest" line. How's that work at noon? "I am...

    Faucet Upgrade

I added an electric pump and kept the hand pump. I'm glad I did. I still use the hand pump a lot, and only use the electric pump when I need to fill the sink or a pot. The hand pump will help you conserve water. X2 I did the same, a cheapo 12v pump for $20 spliced in the line under the sink...

    Grandby (1999) on 2007 Tundra (6.5ft bed)?

Im just sayin that a Grandby will be fine on a 1/2 ton if you have airbags and don't exceed your truck payload. Lots of guys on this forum suggest that a Grandby should automatically be on a 3/4 ton. I guess I just dont understand why if it only weighs 100# more? Buying the longer camper...

    Grandby (1999) on 2007 Tundra (6.5ft bed)?

My Grandby , a 98 I believe, is 59 5/8" wide, a tight fit. As important is payload and balance. A Tundra has about 1600# available. I imagine my Grandby when heading out may be near 1300#. Add dogs, people, tools and crap I carry and I was over capacity on my F150. I supersized.
