RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Rub rail wearing out

The black rub rail around the top of the camper where the popup sits on when down is wearing out. Lots of washboard roads have worn the rub rail down substantially in some areas. The material (vinyl?) Is getting all over the soft side popup and down the sides of the camper. Has anyone...

I replaced the optima batteries (too weak to use anymore) with 2 6V golf cart batteries and changed out the charge/converter for a Iota DLS 45A IQ4. Added a fuse sub panel to clean up things a bit. I removed the CO detector due to it false alarming.

Thank you b team for this great post. I just completed my volt meter installation. Note that the volt meter used in this example had a maximum voltage of 24 volts. The same company makes a voltmeter exactly identical except it has a maximum of 40 volts. I ordered the latter in hopes that in...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Door Weatherstrip Shrinking

Has anyone experienced the rubber weatherstrip around the rear door shrinking? Mine has gotten shorter at the ends and lets in dust now. Is this a replaceable part? If not has anyone used foam weatherstrip from hardware stores as a substitute?

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Sealing the rear window on the door

Its fun to get home from dv and find the window had slid down and the camper is full of dust. I used silicon and a piece of rubber hose (3/4 iirc for heater core) to fix it. No problems since.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Solar again

First thing i would say is not to drain the batteries to 50% on a regular basis. I'd bet that the truck alternator won't be putting out much current or voltage at the camper batteries. It would be interesting to see actual numbers. I'd hook up the output of the solar charge controller to...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Foam source

Thanks for the link. Looks like a good source. I bet a foam shop is a fun place to work :) I ended up going to costco for a 3" memory mattress and I will cut it to fit. It was marked down $20 iirc and seems to be the best quality of other big retailers.

If you are just going on the highway and value space get the larger model. I don't think the added weight behind the axle, possible issues towing, and appearance are worth the benefit of the larger camper.

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Homebrew grey water tank

That is a great idea! 2.5 gal a perfect. I was thinking about doing something like that but would just get a little container and put it under the sink. It would be nice not to have to set up a exterior tank on the ground. :thumb:

I am in the same boat thinking about upgrading my converter (DLS 30?) to a "smart" converter/charger. Right now I'm leaning to the iota 30A that you posted. It seems like a good unit but I'm not sure if I can fit it in the factory FWC power center or if all that stuff has to come out. The...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West The journey begins – The black turtle?

Very nice! Keep everything in one thread. :D I think i'm at around 1.5" roof/camper clearance. The eagle is on a 2500 5.9l and never hits the roof (except that one time the eye bolt pulled out). The dodge has a very stiff frame and doesn't flex. Looking forward to seeing all the mods...

RV LIFE Multisite Forum, Wander The West Need advice on a switch

Check your local trailer or rv supply store. They should have one. It looks just like the solenoids on the fenders of 90s fords. Around $35. Here is one from ev parts. http://www.evparts.com/cat-12+Volt+Coil+Marine+-+RV+Solenoids+&+Contactors.htm

(KISS) for me. Me too. I would skip the battery isolator and use a switch in its place. You would need a continuous duty solenoid to control the circuit.
